I wish a warm welcome to my Healing Your Animal Community new subscribers and you.
Last weekend, Miranda and I went to the Monroe Dog Show. It was fun seeing lots of dogs and supporting clients and friends showing their dogs.

Currently Miranda's favorite dog is the Coton de Tulear and we were able to see the Coton de Tulears' performance and meet the world champion Coton de Tulear along with Ellie (in photo) and a puppy Coton de Tulear.  (I do not have Ellie's titles)  

Miranda had done extensive research, looked at videos on you tube and this was about meeting the breed in person.

As a mom, it was very special (and I was full of gratitude) supporting my daughter getting to hold her dream dog Ellie.   And I got to hold her too. :-)

Accessing the Power of Gratitude
The practice of gratitude as a tool for happiness has been in the mainstream for years. Long-term studies support gratitude’s effectiveness, suggesting that a positive, appreciative attitude contributes to greater success in work, greater health, peak performance in sports and business, a higher sense of well-being, and a faster rate of recovery from surgery.

But while we may acknowledge gratitude’s many benefits, it still can be difficult to sustain. So many of us are trained to notice what is broken, undone or lacking in our lives. And for gratitude to meet its full healing potential in our lives, it needs to become more than just a Thanksgiving word. We have to learn a new way of looking at things, a new habit. And that can take some time.

That’s why practicing gratitude makes so much sense. When we practice giving thanks for all we have, instead of complaining about what we lack, we give ourselves the chance to see all of life as an opportunity and a blessing.

Remember that gratitude isn’t a blindly optimistic approach in which the bad things in life are whitewashed or ignored. It’s more a matter of where we put our focus and attention. Pain and injustice exist in this world, but when we focus on the gifts of life, we gain a feeling of well-being. Gratitude balances us and gives us hope.

There are many things to be grateful for: colorful autumn leaves, legs that work, friends who listen and really hear, chocolate, fresh vegetables, warm jackets, pears, the ability to read, roses, your health, waterfalls, butterflies. What’s on your list?

Some Ways to Practice Gratitude

• Keep a gratitude journal in which you list things for which you are thankful. You can make daily, weekly or monthly lists. Greater frequency may be better for creating a new habit, but just keeping that journal where you can see it will remind you to think in a grateful way.

• Make a gratitude collage by drawing or pasting pictures.

• Practice gratitude around the dinner table or make it part of your nighttime routine.

• Make a game of finding the hidden blessing in a challenging situation.

• When you feel like complaining, make a gratitude list instead. You may be amazed by how much better you feel.

• Notice how gratitude is impacting your life. Write about it, sing about it, express thanks for gratitude.

Client Interest For You
A dog client,Toby, had cancer and had to have one leg amputated. He first came to me right after the surgery. The thing that struck me then is what a wonderful cheerful personality he has. He actually had a smile on his face. Even after what he had just been through. The initial session included helping balance out the emotions of the owners worried about the cancer and him now only having 3 legs.

Our animals pick up on our energies and don't always understand them. In that initial session, he asked me what he had done wrong. He couldn't understand why his owners were looking at him hurting, sad and worried.

Once we cleared and balanced this for him, which gave him clarity, he perked up and was much happier. It also shifted the energy of the owners. They could look at Toby in a much stronger light than they had before.

It was great watching this loving bond go to an even deeper level between them. The session brought an even closer connection and understanding between them.

Toby came for routine sessions. He continued to have his smile and upbeat disposition.

Toby is such a clear example of how to take life in stride, stay calm and happy in the midst of our adversities.
Useful Tip For You
Tip:  The calmer you are; the calmer your animals will be.

How to use this:

The next time you notice your animals being anxious, take a moment to check in with yourself.  Are you feeling anxious too?  I invite you to pause, take 3 deeps breaths in and out.  And as you do this, watch your animals calm too.  As an added bonus, this works for children too.
