Friday, I celebrated Miranda's graduation in Ft. Collins, Colorado from CSU. I am a proud mom. It was a huge milestone for Miranda, and I was surprised how much of a milestone that meant for me as a mom.
I arrived the day before and Miranda and I were able to go into town hanging out and that was fun. I ended up bringing home a big smokey quartz I found at the crystal shop that I couldn't resist. It definitely made my carryon heavy, so I got a good upper body workout getting it home. It was worth it!

Have you ever noticed how your cat(s)/dog(s) don't like change? They like their routine.
Both of my cats had a good look at my new crystal seeing what was coming into their home then went on with their day. They displayed unusual posturing as they were sniffing the crystal, then relaxed back into their normal body postures.
Spirit and Sapphire's behavior with my new crystal inspired this week's exercise on how to relax your pet.
Before we discuss calming and relaxing your pet, let's discuss ways to know your pet can get stressed and how they may show this to you.
There are multiple things that can stress your pet such as: - Graduations with children leaving home
- Your travel away from them
- Your stress
- Going to the vet
- Loud noises
- Moving
- Rearranging your home
- Buying new furniture
- Remodeling
- New additions such as new baby, partner, kitten, or puppy
- Change to schedule such as new job and being gone more
- Not being provided opportunities to be themselves, such as certain breeds of dogs have instincts to dig, herd, fetch and need ways to utilize this behavior in ways that work with the guardians
Some signs to watch for indicating your pet is stressed:
- pacing
- unable to settle down
- shaking
- freezing with solid body and won't budge
- flattened ears
- hiding
- loss of appetite
- backing away from someone or a situation
- unusual posturing
- tail tucked between their legs
- cowering (shrinking down or crouching)
- diarrhea or increased bowel movements
- frequent urination
- sudden shedding
- vomiting
- whale eyes - when the whites of your pet's eyes are visible
- change in sleeping habits
- low energy
Note: if your pet is stressed and anxious, see your veterinarian to rule out any underlying health issues. |

- Spend bonding time with them
- Pheromones - they have them for cats and dogs
- Mental stimulation
- Exercise

One of the natural calming techniques that I teach is:
Slowly rubbing your finger up the bridge of your pet's nose. (see photo above)
