I had an awesome trip in September to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida attending SOAR, where Heather gave each one of a single white rose at the end of the event. It was beautiful and had its very own water tube to keep it fresh.
In the past, I would savor my rose and then leave it in the hotel room when I left hoping housekeeping would appreciate it since I did not know how to get home with it on the plane.
My roommate kept insisting I take my white rose with me when I left. I got up super early to catch an early flight and was heading out the door and here my roommate wakes up and says take your rose. Okay, I guess it was really supposed to come with me this time.
I checked in at the airport and had to go to the ticket counter due to a change. A man was helping me with check-in. As I was leaving the counter, I reached in, pulled out my beautiful white rose and gave it to the lady check-in person next to where I checked in. She was so stunned and so grateful. She said it really made her day and I could feel that.
So I went on my way through security and to the gate feeling great about adding light to someone's day.
The story doesn't stop here.
When I was boarding and the lady scanning my boarding pass recognized my name (and remember the person receiving the rose didn't check me in, so she didn't have my name immediately), she said "oh, you are the rose lady". Wow! The news had traveled fast! I was totally grateful for this experience to see how one simple gesture really has a ripple effect!
Then my plane ride was so awesome. The row behind me was totally empty and it had extra leg room, so I stretched out across all 3 seats and got some sleep in an expanded way!
And on the plane was another person from SOAR who had her white rose with her, so I now know it will clear security! :-)
