Are Poinsettias REALLY toxic to your cats and dogs?
Hi Friend,

Healing Vibrations to You!

I wish a warm welcome to my new ezine subscribers!
Holiday season is here. Everything is so festive. I got to fulfill a dream of mine and see NYC decorated for the holiday season. The scale of the Rockefeller tree and star were so amazing. Santa was ice skating with the skaters below it. Miranda and I went to the zoo last night and saw all of the lights decorated. It was cold, beautiful and fun.

If you have heard that poinsettias are toxic to your cats and dogs, you will want to check out this ezine’s tip.

And if you know taking the best care of your cat and dog is something important you want to take further, please get in touch with me for a complementary conversation.

Client Interest for You!
IC is a Bouvier dog who has been recovering from an incident with a tree. She was running full bore and not looking where she was going and ran right into a tree. As you can imagine that did a number on her neck, shoulders and body as well as her not being sure of herself afterwards.

IC has been receiving chiropractic and healing for this. When I saw, she was still being head-shy and not fully extending herself to her full abilities. She was being reserved in her actions.

IC responded well to her session.

She wasn’t sure at the beginning about how she felt about our time together, she went with it and allowed me to help her. She released trauma from her incident that was still inside. She gained flexibility in her neck and shoulders. Instead of crouching, she was outstretched fully with the muscle guarding gone. She was so relaxed with her eyes closed by the end of her session. She allowed herself to receive to her fullest ability. When she got up from her session, she was jumping up and down and all around full of zest and energy. She was going through her guardian’s legs, and going through her guardian’s legs and going through her guardian’s legs with her own entertainment. She was letting us know how good she felt. It was sure fun to witness. Yay!
The Rest of the Story…

I reached out to see how IC was doing after her session. And here are the reports I received:

One week later:

“It is so good to hear from you in order that I might share our great news. I am thrilled to report that IC has a whole new look on life. The first day after her release by you, she jumped up onto my husband John. She has not done this since her accident. She is also chasing her mother, DC, and our Border Terrier, Bindi, confidently around the yard. I am looking forward to taking her into town and walking her this weekend.

Thanks from both of us for your healing hands!”

Another week later:

“IC is doing fabulous. She jumped up on John just the other day again and she is running around chasing her cousin the last two days, she is initiating play, she is not afraid to get out there and do a little jump, tuck and run so I am very very grateful. We have seen a huge difference in her. Thank you again!”

Useful Tip for You!

Every year when poinsettias are so beautiful and given as gifts, you may have heard poinsettias are poisonous to your cats and dogs.

I actually had my cat, Tasha, who loved to eat flowers off my plants get into my poinsettia one Christmas. It was 14 degrees outside and my car battery had died. I was beside myself, because I couldn't rush her to the vet if I needed to. I was on the phone with poison hotline (that wasn't familiar with poinsettias for cats) getting all of the signs to watch for and what to do to help her. I didn't get much sleep that night monitoring her. She had only had a bite or two when I caught her, yet always hearing how toxic poinsettias were to cats and dogs, that could have made the difference in her living or not.

I am passing this information along, because if your cat or dog decides to chomp on some Poinsettia, you won't have to go through the major worry that I did.

Tip : Poinsettias are only mildly poisonous to your Cats and Dogs

There are Other plants to really worry about:

Reported from Pet Poison Hotline

Far more worrisome are holiday bouquets containing lilies, holly or mistletoe. Even bouquets brought into the house by holiday guests should be thoroughly inspected, as lilies are the #1 flower often used by florists. Just one or two bites from a lily can result in severe acute kidney failure in cats – even the pollen is thought to be poisonous! Other yuletide plants such as holly berries, mistletoe, and rosemary can also be toxic to dogs and cats. When Christmas or English holly is ingested, it can result in severe gastrointestinal upset thanks to the spiny leaves and the potentially toxic substances (including saponins, methylxanthines, and cyanogens). If ingested, most dogs and cats lip smack, drool, and head shake excessively due to the mechanical injury from the spiny leaves. As for mistletoe, most of us hang it high enough so it’s out of reach of our dogs and cats – nevertheless, it can also be toxic if ingested. Thankfully, American mistletoe is less toxic than the European varieties of it. Mild signs of gastrointestinal irritation are seen, although if ingested in large amounts, collapse, hypotension, ataxia (walking drunk), seizures and death have also been reported.
