"What YouTube Won't Tell You About Colloidal Silver – Is It Safe for Pets?"
A video I posted over 5 years ago discussing colloidal silver for pets was removed by YouTube, citing misinformation concerns.
FDA Concerns
The FDA states that colloidal silver can be toxic in large quantities, potentially causing issues like organ damage and argyria (bluish skin discoloration).
Safety at Appropriate Doses
At recommended doses, colloidal silver is highly diluted (parts per million) and does not cause clinical side effects in pets or humans.
Overdosing on colloidal silver is virtually impossible, while overdosing on a common OTC anti-inflammatory, aspirin is very easy. The NSAIDs, including Aspirin are far more dangerous, yet the FDA is OK with this being used over the counter.
Scientific Studies
Research indicates colloidal silver is effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria and has a wide safety margin when used appropriately.
Consider this study: 'Antibacterial Activity of Colloidal Silver against Gram-Negative and Gram-Positive Bacteria'. The authors said this:
'Due to the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, new alternative therapies are needed. Silver was used to treat bacterial infections since antiquity due to its known antimicrobial properties. Altogether, these results suggest that Colloidal Silver could be an effective treatment for infections caused by MDR Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.'
Practical Uses in Pets
Colloidal silver is used for:
Skin and wound infections (topical application).
Eye infections (1-2 drops, 4 times daily for 5 days).
Ear infections (2-4 drops, twice daily for 5-7 days).
Respiratory issues like kennel cough or cat flu (2 drops per 10 lbs of body weight, twice daily).
Despite its potential benefits, colloidal silver faces strong opposition from regulatory bodies like the FDA and platforms like YouTube.
I encourage you to make informed decisions about using colloidal silver, especially as it has a low side effect profile and it can be very effective.
I want you to prioritize treatments with minimal side effects, a wide safety margin, and reasonable cost when addressing your pet health issues.
