So what’s so interesting about veterinary medicine these days?
This: While Americans are spending more money than ever on pets, fewer than half the pets in America receive regular veterinary care, according to reliable estimates.
Spending is up for pet food, boarding, grooming and pet toys but down for pet healthcare.
“Interesting” indeed, especially since pet owners are seeking more and more health-related services for themselves.

Perhaps some of what was discussed in the much maligned 20/20 Veterinary Confessions piece may be holding true.
Pet owners are feeling financially pinched.
Many are finding veterinary fees excessive.
The easiest way to avoid the fees is by not going to a veterinarian.
Is this a good thing?
Nope, especially in that most veterinarians can do a wonderful job in diagnosing your pet's health problems.
But clearly there are 'other' issues.
Perhaps the veterinary profession needs to be asking more pet owners WHY, and not just reading what other consultants, veterinarians, and 'business experts' think.
