Ticks
Have you been concerned about Toxic reactions to Flea/Tick Insecticides?
Well you should
Consider this
A common flea/tick collar for pets has been linked to thousands of deaths, a new report reveals.
The Seresto Flea and Tick Collar made by Bayer is designed to protect both dogs and cats from fleas and ticks, by releasing pesticide onto the animal for months at a time.
However, the product is now being tied to almost 1700 animal deaths in the US, according to recently exposed Environmental Protection Agency documents.
The findings also reveal tens of thousands of Seresto-related incidents of animal injuries and human illnesses. Despite the overwhelming number of complaints, the EPA has never released a warning about the products.
In total OVER 75,000 reported 'adverse events' and over 1000 people reported ill from these collars..
Natural Tick Preventives, plus Dr. Jones' NEW Homemade Tick Spray!
BAD-SMELLING HERBS. Aromatic herbs may help repel fleas/ticks. Pennyroyal and catnip are most effective. A scientific study isolated a compound in catnip that was extremely effective in repelling fleas, possibly ticks.
NATURAL CONTROL IN YOUR YARD. Nematodes are microscopic worms that prey on the larvae and pupae of fleas. They can be purchased at most garden stores; a small canister contains one hundred million little worms. Follow the label directions, spraying them on the damp bushy areas in your yard.
SPRAY YOUR YARD with GARLIC! Garlic Barrier Liquid Spray has been used to deters ticks when sprayed around the edges of your yard. It's 100% safe, and definitely worth trying.
MAKE YOUR PET TASTE BAD. Garlic and brewer’s yeast have been advocated as a way of repelling fleas/ticks, and there is a garlic based tick repellent, so I would try it. For a ten-pound dog, give one-fourth teaspoon of garlic and one-fourth tablespoon of brewer’s yeast daily.
CEDARWOOD OIL SPRAY: A relatively nontoxic natural substance, this has been proven effective in the eradication of infestations in pets. Be cautious in spraying any type of essential oil on cats or small dogs; only lightly mist them and then use a flea comb to spread the spay around.
Dr Jones' NEW Turmeric Oil Natural Tick Repellent Spray
One recent study looked at 10 different essential oils, looking at the repellent properties of these oils.
One oil came out way on top: the paper's titled Preventing Tick Attachment to Dogs using Essential Oils
Turmeric root essential oil had the best tick repelling properties at a relatively very low concentration (2%).
3 ingredients
1. Base of the spray is Witch Hazel with aloe. It's a great skin oil and it forms a great base for any type of flee or tick spray. It can decrease inflammation that may be happening from a pest infestation.
2. Liquid coconut oil. Some of the fats within coconut oil such as lauric acid, have demonstrated pest repellent properties, and it also makes a great base binding the turmeric essential oil so they can evenly spread throughout the tick spray.
3. Turmeric essential oil - of all the essential oils studied it came on on top of having the best tick repellent properties.
Recipe
Witch Hazel with Aloe: 100ml (7 tablespoons)
Liquid Coconut oil: 30ml (2 tablespoons)
Turmeric Essential Oil: 2.5ml (50 drops)
This produces a 2% concentration of turmeric essential oil, making it safe for dogs
Shake well each time before spraying.
Use liquid coconut oil, and you still may need to warm this if your house is cold.
Lightly mist your dog/cat, then use a flea comb to spread it through the fur.
Can be applied 2-3 times/week for a dog, but best to only use once a week for cats.
