Abstract

The beneficial effects of probiotics have been demonstrated in many diseases. One of the major mechanisms of probiotic action is through the regulation of host immune response.

This review highlights the recent scientific research findings that advance our understanding of probiotic regulation of the host immune response with potential application for disease prevention and treatment.

...Thus, probiotics showed therapeutic potential for diseases, including several immune response-related diseases, such as allergy, eczema, viral infection

Allergy and eczema

Numerous studies have been performed to evaluate the effects of probiotics on allergy prevention and treatment. Results from animals and humans have shown promise for probiotics in the prevention and treatment of allergy.

Conclusion

Current evidence shows promise for further developing health benefits and the efficacy of probiotics and probiotic-derived factors on the regulation of host homeostasis, including immune health.

Dr Jones Comments

In my opinion IF you have a dog or cat with any type of chronic inflammatory condition, SUCH as Allergy, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Urinary Tract Disease, THEN you should be considering a quality probiotic supplement.

What to take?

Well research is ongoing, and there are thousands of probiotic strains that interact with different species, along with each other... it's complex.

That being said there are a few specific probiotics that have been most studied for immune modulation, with the Lactobacillus species being at the top..

I do have one subspecies of Lactobacillus in my supplements, which may be beneficial.

As research progresses, and we better understand which probiotics are most beneficial, I'll let you know!
