Hello Friend,

Good morning to you this Monday.

A Happy belated Mothers Day to all of the Moms out there.

I gave my mom flowers and chocolates- talking to her last night she was most appreciative of the chocolate :-)

Pets NOT politically correct
-------------------------------------------

Editors of the Journal of Animal Ethics are suggesting this:

Domestic dogs, cats, hamsters or budgerigars [birds] should be rebranded as “companion animals” while owners should be known as “human carers”, they insist.

They include terms such as wildlife- they want it dismissed as it is insulting to the animals concerned – they claim instead they be known as “free-living”.

The just of the argument is that “derogatory” language about animals can affect the way that they are treated.

“Despite its prevalence, ‘pets’ is surely a derogatory term both of the animals concerned and their human carers,” the editorial claims.

“Again the word ‘owners’, whilst technically correct in law, harks back to a previous age when animals were regarded as just that: property, machines or things to use without moral constraint.”

//////////////////////////////////////////////

P.S. I have thought about this in the past, and chose to still use the words 'pets' and 'owners'.

I DO NOT look at my 'pets' as simple possessions- nor do I see myself as the BIG MASTER Owner...

Do we NEED to change the words to reflect our changed beliefs?

I don't think so.

I would MUCH rather see real legal changes- including MUST stricter animal abuse laws.

Your thoughts?

P.P.S. Using 'words' is specifically what got me into a BIG kettle of Hot Water..

So no question they have impacts and threaten some people.

BUT is what I am saying ALL that bad?

You decide..
