Hello Friend,

Winter weather CAN damage many a persons skin- in fact I have these seriously cracked feet that ALWAYS happen in the winter.

Low Humidity, cold air, and the constant temperature changes play a role in causing this.

My body is not able to keep up to these changes- resulting in sore feet and unsightly rough hands.

And it seems to be getting worse as I get older...

This is ALSO happening with your dog and cat.

Pads become DRY and CRACKED.

Skin becomes DRY, ITCHY and FLAKY.

Dandruff is VERY common.

Here are some SOLUTIONS:

----------------------------------
Bathing the RIGHT way
---------------------------------

Avoid removing the skin’s natural oils by a couple of ways.

DON'T excessively shampoo in the winter. Ideally only once a month.

Use a moisturizing shampoo for sensitive skin, along with a moisturizing rinse.

I prefer the oatmeal based shampoos, along with a conditioner after the shampoo.

-------------------------------
Hair Brush
-------------------------------

Brushing AT least once a week.

Stimulate the natural oil glands in the skin by using a SOFT brush.

This will also help remove dead skin and loos hair, allowing the skin to heal itself.

--------------------------------
Humidifier in your house
--------------------------------

This goes a LONG way to help me, and will help your pets.

Increasing the humidity in your home will decrease the likelhood of cracked pads, and dandruff.

---------------------------------
Vaseline
---------------------------------

A VERY inexpensive and effective home remedy for cracked pads- it also works great for people!!

First check your pet's pads weekly in the winter, and IF they are becoming dry and cracked, you can apply petroleum jelly at night- in more serious cases apply it twice a day.

-----------------------------
Supplement
-----------------------------

The last BIG point here is to be supplementing your dog and cats diet with ingredients that will protect the skin and pads during the harsher winter months.

Essential Fatty Acids are KEY, as are ingredients that are anti-inflammatory for the soft tissue. These include anti-oxidants, along with nutrients such as Glucosamine and MSM.

My supplements can be VERY beneficial for dry pads and flaky itchy skin.

P.S. I myself am on Flax as a supplement- and it is making a big difference for my winter skin health.

The thing about your pets is that they are NOT whiners like ourselves :-)  - you usually don;t know that there is a problem until they are very sore.

So practice some preventive pet care.

Here is one specific suggestion which in my opinion can go a long way in maintaining the HEALTH of your dog or cat.

And keep cracked pads and dandruff AWAY.
