I am RESIGNING
------------------------------------------------

Hard to believe, but true.

Global TV broadcast the story on Friday night.

Here is where to watch my story:

--------------------------------------
What REALLY happened
--------------------------------------

Most of the story is accurate, but here is more of what has really
happened..

I will no longer be able to help pets and pet owners as of November
30, 2010.

I am resigning from the College of Veterinarians, losing  my right
to practice Veterinary medicine and surgery.

This shocking decision comes after a lengthy battle with my College
over my  Alternative Pet Health Internet newsletter and business.

I began publishing an Alternative Pet Health Newsletter and Digital
Book in September 2003.-

My Internet Newsletter and E-book covers all aspects of Natural Dog
and Cat Health Care.

I have been openly critical of of Conventional Veterinary
Practices, advocating pet owners to be more involved with their
pet’s own care.

I AM a strong champion of Natural and Alternative pet care, with my
book ‘Veterinary Secrets Revealed’  being a compilation of At Home
Remedies for common dog and cat health problems.

In the past I have also been openly critical of my Veterinary
College, in this free daily newsletter, ‘Veterinary Secrets’

The College of Veterinarians Inquiry committee first began
investigations of myself in December 1 2005.  The panel released
their report on April 20, 2010.

I was found guilty of violating numerous sections of the Code of
Ethics and Bylaws with respect to marketing of his Natural Dog and
Cat Health Internet Business.

“ The panel finds that between December 1, 2005 and October 31,
2008, Dr Jones violated ss 8,26,27,97,100 and 104(a),(b), (c), (d),
and (e) of the Code of Ethics and Bylaws.

Furthermore, we are concerned that a veterinarian, a professional
person, would breach his two written undertakings to the BCVMA.”

The Inquiry  committee claims:

“ Dr Jones ‘ marketing material  is a serious example of his
unprofessional  behavior in that his marketing material has an all
–pervading persistent theme of denigrating other members of his
profession in order to draw attention to himself. In his self
laudatory statements, Dr Jones’ constant harangue serves to throw the veterinary profession into disrepute.”

The College of Veterinarians Council met on September 20, 2010 to determine the penalties to be awarded to myself.

The council fined me $ 30,000, PLUS a portion of the
Inquiry costs (minimum 10,000),

I have resigned from the College of Veterinarians – losing my ability to practice in my Veterinary clinic, The Nelson Animal
Hospital, as I am NO longer willing to be under the scrutiny of this
College.

“ I am tired of fighting, and I no longer want to face further
disciplinary action. My Veterinary College may proceed with actions
against me again as I am continuing to publish alternative pet
health information, and market my Internet business in ways that is
not to their liking.’

I stated during the Council hearing that I was of the opinion that
it was not reasonable that the College of Veterinarians was holding
my Internet Business to the same standards of marketing as a
Veterinary Practice. The majority of my subscribers are in the
United States, less than 5% are located in British Columbia.

I *really* am disheartened with the conclusions of the Inquiry
committee as I DO NOT hold an overarching  ‘disparaging attitude
towards my colleagues and profession’, as is claimed by the authors
of the Inquiry report.

‘Clearly the College of Veterinarians wants me to stop publishing
on the Internet, especially alternative dog and cat health
information. By the constant harassment, and ultimately having me
resign, the Veterinary College is not serving their members nor the
public well.

My clients lose as I am no longer able be their  Veterinarian in
Nelson BC.  I  have been in practice here in Nelson for over 12
years, and during that time I have had ZERO client disciplinary
complaints.

The profession loses as the College of Veterinarians has directed
disproportionate resources towards prosecuting me, and further
muzzled any current practicing Veterinarians who are inclined to speak out.

Who wins?

A small group of conservative Veterinarians who want to keep practicing Veterinary medicine conventionally, with no room for dissenting opinions.”

The College of Veterinarians ( formerly known as the BCVMA) has been in the news frequently with many lengthy and costly legal battles with other Veterinarians.  As such, Veterinarians in BC
have the highest annual dues across Canada, and the College has had
to demand multiple levies ( additional fees) to cover their legal
bills.

I sincerely regret having to leave my clients, my veterinary
practice, and my profession.

“ Ultimately, someone has to make a stand, and I am frankly tired
of The College of Veterinarians being the big Bully on the
playground that no one is willing to stand up to . I feel that the
public deserves better- pet owners need someone to champion their
rights, and it’s not by prosecuting competent Veterinarians.

I sincerely hope that other Veterinarians do not experience what I
have gone through.”
