Hi Friend,
Good morning and welcome to Tuesday.
Yesterday I posted a mustached pic of me, along with my dog Jessie ( who is one big ball of fuzz!) and asked who you thought has the BEST stache?
The winner...
Jessie
I lose to my dog
If you have yet to see the picture, it's on my blog at

---------------------------------------- To the 'real' doctor ----------------------------------------
Part of my growing a mustache and raise awareness for prostate cancer was not only about awareness, but also getting myself checked.
yup
the dreaded prostate exam
Never had one before, and I was sure not looking forward to it.
My wife did encourage me:
"How can you grow a mustache about prostate cancer, and NOT get yourself checked?"
Right...
The pressure was on.
So last week I booked an appointment, and went to the 'real' doctor
It's done under the auspices of a physical exam
I get it- If ever you brought in a middle aged to older un-neutered male dog I ALWAYS did a rectal exam to palpate the prostate gland.
What goes around comes around.
Any ways he does his physical exam stuff
Talks about blood pressure etc..
Then gets me to 'strip down' and put on this crazy hospital gown thing.
Asks me about my 'boys'
Are your 'boys' OK?...No swelling? Signs of hernia?
I assume he means testicles, and I am more than happy to tell him that my 'boys' are fine.
He then gets me to lay on my side on the exam table thing, tells me to pull up my legs and 'relax' as he goes into examine my prostate
Relax? huh
Then just 'breathe'
Ya right
Not a pleasant experience, although fortunately my prostate is fine...Yay
Now my mustache is gone, December is here, and the prostate exam is just an bad memory :-)
Heal Your Pet At Home!
Best Wishes,
Dr Andrew Jones, DVM
P.S. Being on the other side of the table, does give you a completely different perspective.
Perhaps I may have been a little slower and more gentle with some of my dog prostate exams, or anal gland expressions.
Regardless, it also impress on me the importance of regular exams, of which YOU can do yourself with your own dog or cat.
My NEW Healing Your Pets At Home Video is a GREAT place to start.
