Hello Friend,

Re: Fired up over dog vaccination

//////////////////////////////////////////////

A BIG Hi to you and your pets this cold looking Tuesday morning.

The issue of vaccination and vaccines is not going away any time
soon.

Safe?

Necessary?

WHY are you FORCED to get them for your pet in some areas?

Is this fair?

In fact here is a news story in which a Grandmother was FORCED to
give her dog a Rabies vaccine.

By MICHAEL PEELING, Tillsonburg News

STRAFFORDVILLE - Steven Straub wasn't too impressed when his
72-year-old mother had to pay for the family dog to be vaccinated
after living in Vienna for nearly 50 years.

"She received an onerous letter regarding a dog control bylaw
saying the dog must be in compliance," Straub told Bayham council
at its latest meeting.

Bylaw 2009-059, which Straub cited, says that any dog over the
age of three months must be immunized against rabies.

His mother, Frieda, explained that she was aware of the bylaw,
but didn't think the municipality took it that seriously.

"I don't believe in it, but I guess now it's mandatory," she
said.

Frieda was surprised when she received a registered letter
telling her to get the dog - a small, at least 10-year-old mixed
breed named Copper - a rabies shot or face a $58 fine.

"It really worked me up," she said.

Frieda has been living without her husband since he had a second
stroke and is still in hospital.

She says her son has "stepped up" to help her deal with the
stress.

Straub told council the dog is kept in an enclosed kennel and is
"completely socialized."

"If not for our family dogs over the years, I honestly believe I
wouldn't be alive," Straub said.

Straub alleged the bylaw officer didn't handle his inquiries
about the bylaw very well.

"I recommend a vaccine of civility in his case," he said.

Straub recommended Bayham sponsor a vaccine clinic in the
community to make the process more accessible.

The family gave in and took it to a veterinary clinic earlier
this month.

"The dog is now is compliance and he howled all the way to the
vet clinic," Straub said.

P.S. What is the RISK of this dog ever getting rabies?......close
to ZERO

What do I think of the bylaw?...Unfair and bordering on being
illegal. In my opinion YOU as a concerned pet owner should be
able to choose to NOT give your dog or cat vaccines.

P.P.S. The PRIMARY point of the vaccines is to PREVENT disease.

Here is something FAR more effective:

A COMPLETE dog or cat supplement.
