Pet store owner goes on pet food diet for 30 days
|

Dorothy Hunter is the owner of Paw's Natural Pet Emporium, started her dog and cat food diet June 19, eating only pet food for 30 days..
It all started when she snacked on dog treats while she was hungry..And they tasted good!
She is not only eating treats, but also canned cat food and wet dog food have been added to her diet. Even some of her employees have are now eating pet food.
Some of her favorites are freeze-dried cheddar dog treats as well as green-bean chips, also intended for dogs.
The Food and Drug Administration states that pet food is not intended for humans, since people and pets have different dietary needs, but noted that both are required to be compliant with food additive regulations and free of pathogens.
WHY?
She is trying to prove that the food she sells for animals is as healthy and nutritious as food sold to people.
The pet food she sells does not contain corn, wheat, soy, byproducts, fillers, corn gluten or the food preservatives BHA, BHT, ethoxquin and propylene glycol.
She said she also avoids food or ingredients from China.
Does this raise awareness of the ingredients in pet food?
Yes
Does it highlight the importance of feeding a more natural diet to your dog or cat?
Yes again.
But...
Some of these same diets were part of the Pet Food Recall in 2007 in which thousands of animals died.
Meaning you need to be vigilant, rotate some of your dog and cat food, make some of the food yourself, and feed some raw.

When I was a child my brother and I often snacked on Purina Cat Chow..uuuuugh
Working at the clinic we did sell a homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treat- which I tended to snack on.
YUM!
Here is the recipe...
Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
Original recipe makes 4 dozen
2 cups whole wheat flour, or as needed
2 cups spelt flour
2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
1/4 cup flax seeds
2 1/2 cups warm water
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Combine
wheat flour, spelt flour, oats, and flax seeds in large bowl. Stir in
water and peanut butter. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface,
mixing in more flour as needed until dough is smooth and no longer
sticky. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut with small cookie cutters
into desired shapes, and place 3/4 inch apart on greased cookie sheets.
Bake 40 minutes. Turn oven off; leave biscuits in oven until completely cool.
