It is a single-cell plant alga high in protein and other essential nutrients; when dried, it is about 45% protein, 20% fat, 20% carbohydrate, 5% fibre, and 10% minerals and vitamins.
Mass-production methods are now being used to cultivate it in large artificial circular ponds. Chlorella is a complete protein source.

Dosing

It comes in tablets or powder form that can be mixed with a dog's food. A 50-pound dog should be given two to four tablets of 250 mgs each per day.

If you are to use chorella, ensure that you are purchasing it from a reputable supplier- such as a Natural Health Store that has a reputation for quality.
   
If you have a pet who has some advancing arthritis, is overweight or has diabetes, this is a supplement I would have you consider using.

Discuss it with your veterinarian, and do your own research, but I am considering using it on my older arthritic dog Jessie- and I'll keep you posted.
