Boxing Day or Pet Adoption?

December 26th, 2011 at 6:49 am EDT

Hello and a Happy the Day after Christmas to you, Friend.

Here in Canada it's called 'Boxing Day', which means a day off for some, and massive shopping FRENZY for others.

It just so happens that I am have a small Boxing Day Special of my own here:

Currently the SPCA here in B.C. is encouraging those who are looking for pets to consider one in a shelter- there are over 4000 in BC shelters.

They STRONGLY discourage giving pets as gifts- somewhat of the opposite as 'Boxing Day Specials', but are of the opinion that now is a good time to consider adopting with most of the family home and off school for the holidays.

DO you REALLY need those new ski pants?

Or could you donate some time and mon-eey to your local animal shelter?

And IF you are considering a NEW pet, go see the shelter animals.

I have adopted all of my pets from shelters- even my Dad's former dog Jessie came from the SPCA in Edmonton.

Petfinder.com is a wonderful resource, and I encourage you to use them.

Have a good post Christmas day!!

Best Wishes

Dr Andrew J
