Hi Friend,
A Big Hello to you this Friday – I hope that both you and your pets are doing well.
First Thanks for being a subscriber and a supporter.
Many of you know that I helped start an Animal Shelter next to my clinic, it was called the Second Chance Animal Shelter.
During the course of the shelter we were adopting nearly one animal per day,( we adopted thousands of animals)
We operated under the principle of being 'no kill'- meaning we would not euthanize a healthy dog or cat- regardless how much time they spent in the shelter.
But operating a shelter under those circumstances is very costly, and unfortunately Second Chance was forced to close when we couldn't raise enough ongoing funds.
A reader sent me a link to an Animal Shelter in Calgary which is doing some wonderful work, but could use some help.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society is a registered, non-profit charity ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Alberta, thousands of cats and dogs are homeless, abandoned, abused or living in horrendous conditions. Although we may not see them on the streets of our cities and towns, it is estimated that well over 25,000 small animals are rescued or surrendered in Alberta alone.
AARCS mission is to improve the lives of animals by rescuing and providing sanctuary to abandoned, surrendered or abused animals; assisting communities to achieve healthy and respectful relationships with animals; promoting responsible and compassionate guardianship and advocating on behalf of all animals.
AARCS is a network of individuals and families concerned about the welfare of abandoned, abused and surrendered animals in the province of Alberta. Our volunteers range in age from young children to seniors and all are animal-lovers who are looking to make a difference. We rescue animals throughout Alberta from Cold Lake to Lethbridge and everywhere in between. We have taken in animals from high-kill shelters in the NWT, Saskatchewan and on occasion the USA or Mexico.

Heal Your Pet At Home!
Best Wishes,
Dr Andrew Jones, DVM
P.S. I am now going to be actively supporting causes that need support. I KNOW just how difficult it is to operate an animal shelter.
Shelter staff give a TONNE of their time, and deal with so much.
It's not fair for them, or ALL the animals.
Clearly the thousands of animal shelters need support, and the least you and I can do is help in a small way.
I encourage you to send us in an email about your local animal shelter or rescue group that needs help.
