Hello,
Karen here!
As the clinic approaches I'm sending you some videos to help you "warm up" to make the most of our time together. This is the second video - if you missed the first one, please check your spam or junk folders in case the email landed in the wrong place :)
This video introduces one particular shift in strategy around problem-solving through Feel. A widely-used pressure and release strategy is to correct a resistance with a presentation of pressure of some kind as we ask the horse to adjust to us and find our release. This goes against the horse's own flow and makes that "wrong thing difficult". It can feel like a confrontation that doesn't serve to bring us any closer in the partnership.
In a Feel-based approach we create a new flow, a mutual flow, in which we adjust to the Feel of our horse, to begin from a Feel of Release (without pressure first) and incrementally make the right thing so obvious, the horse can't miss.
Instead of asking our horse to find the four leaf clover, we point it out to him - so to speak!
