| | Spirit of Calm at Peace Pond Written by Leddy During a Thunderstorm, Summer of Corona 2020
|
| | Oh, Spirit, sweet Spirit of Calm, calm me down. When chaos comes on and on and on, like a strong, wild wind, And the earth quakes, the whole world shakes, before my heart breaks, Oh, I just want it to end, please, just make the chaos end.
Oh Spirit, sweet Spirit of Calm, calm me down. My Shelter and Strength, when I get to the brink, I think, You’re here. Tell me, “Let it be! The Truth makes free!” How that calms me. Then, there’s nothing to fear, nothing at all
to fear.
Oh Spirit, sweet Spirit of Calm, calm me down. Find me, unwind me, remind me You designed me with a calm Mind. Bring me back here, where the air’s clear on the shores of Peace Pond. Sit me down, hold me down, quiet me down, just calm me down. Say, “There, there,” with Your still, small voice and I’ll hear, And I’ll say, “I Am Calm,” here on the shores of
Peace Pond.
Oh Spirit, Spirit of Calm, You calm me down. The chaos? Come and gone. “Be still and know that I am God.” You always will say “Hush, be still,” and, quietly fill Me with a great calm, here on the shores of Peace Pond. |
| | This Sunday's Lesson Title: - We Always Will
|
| When I found this place, time stood still. I knew I’d return and I always will.
The connection we’ve found is deep and true. You see the Light in me, I see the Light in you.
When I think of Unity, I love it still. I feel at home here and I always will.
This faith works well, and hinders none. Rest and refresh, then travel on. When you come back, we’ll be here still. Return again, you always will. |

| | | Coming Soon: Lessons in Truth Class
|
| Begins Tuesday, Aug 18 7:00 PM Zoom
Want to learn more about Unity? This is the class for that!
Join Associate Minister, Judy Tafelski, for a new class series, Lessons in Truth, based on the same title of the book by Dr. H. Emilie Cady. Lessons in Truth and the Bible are Unity’s two primary textbooks.
Unity Co-founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore published the original series of Lessons in Truth by Dr. H. Emilie Cady in Modern Thought, the origin of Unity magazine.
Renowned poet Maya Angelou, who received the first honorary doctorate presented by Unity Institute, said Lessons in Truth changed her life. Dr. Angelou was introduced to Unity while studying with a voice teacher. They met weekly to read from Lessons in Truth.
She said: “I read from a book called Lessons in Truth…’God
loves me’.” Her teacher asked her to read that same line three times;
on the fourth read, she read “with ferocity-forceful: God. Loves. Me.”
Dr. Angelou goes on: “And, at that moment, I knew it. I knew it! I
thought, ‘God? That which made bees and mountains and water? That? Loves
me? Maya Angelou? Well then, there’s nothing I can’t do. I can do
anything good…fifty years later, I could weep with joy at the knowledge
that I am loved by Love itself.”
All Are Welcome! All UCC classes are offered on a free will love offering basis.

| | | | Sharing a letter from a thoughtful listener to UCC's service on Sunday, July 27, 2020, to our Senior Minister, and her response:
A listener wrote:
"Thanks
for sharing your story. How can we get the agitators that are causing
so much turmoil in our country to stop? I think 'Law and order.' I
would love to know what you think. Thanks for your reply."
Leddy's reply:
"Glad
to know you are looking in on UCC by Zoom or FB. As to your question,
it's always best to go within to the Holy Spirit for guidance in
everything. I am not the one to tell others what is best for them.
It's never really helpful to try to "get" people to behave. They will have to want to behave differently.
I
cannot recommend attempts to force compliance with what "we" may think
is best. Of course, if "agitators" are not interested in peaceful
outcomes, harm to people or property is not to be condoned. Many people
who are called "agitators" by some are justly motivated to express the
first amendment rights guaranteed by our Constitution.
Jesus
Christ taught us that the best way to lead is by example, rather than by
force or threat. However, even the Master threw down the tables of the
dove-sellers and the money changers. We do not know of Him ever causing
physical harm, though He certainly did get into a lot of 'good
trouble.'
I believe in the right to peaceful protest. As for
those who want to use violence, on either side, I would say that angry
words and actions, no matter what the motivation, will never bring
peace; but neither will suppression and resistance to change that is
long overdue.
I can only repeat what Martin Luther King, Jr., wisely said:
'Darkness cannot drive away darkness. Only light can do that. Hatred cannot drive away hatred. Only love can do that.'
As
Truth students, we would agree that the first thing for all to do is to
tell the truth, and the Truth, about everything. 'Truth never
changes.' Lies are always found out in the end. Kindness is the
highest religion. You must have known I would say that.
Be safe and well, Leddy
P.S.
More thoughts on this: While there is no doubt that destructive words
and actions prove not to be helpful and violence and vandalism cannot
continue, it is also important to realize that underlying frustration
over real injustices will not go away until these injustices are faced
and made right. "Turmoil" may be inconvenient, but it is a sign that
must not be ignored, for it is the cry of injured humankind when
something is deeply wrong. We must listen. Bringing that wrong to
light may require "necessary trouble." Until we can all find the
strength, faith, wisdom, and love to have those challenging
conversations and change the attitudes and actions that have not worked
for the greater good, there will be no justice, no peace. Now, more
than ever, we must learn to "walk with the wind" of the Holy Spirit
together. As John Lewis said, "The way of peace, the way of love and
nonviolence is the more excellent way." |

| | | | We still are getting frequent questions has been: "what's the best way to send an offering to the church?"
We're checking mail every day, so checks sent through the mail are fine as are checks sent from your bank's online bill pay.
If you feel led you might consider setting up an automatic recurring donation. This can be done through your banks bill pay or on the church's donation form.
We've also been asked about the processing fees the church has to pay when the online form is used. The fees are a small percentage (3&-4%) of the total donation, however there is an option to cover fees that you may select if you feel so inclined. Every little bit helps and we're grateful if you decide to turn that option on.

| | | | | | "There's a Bible promise that will help you to know that what may seem lost is not so in reality, and that the opportunities and blessings that seem gone will return just as fast as you are ready for them. 'I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten,' saith Jehovah. All that has been destroyed, neglected, or lost through lack of understanding or foolishness or false pride or ambition can and will be brought forth as present good just as rapidly as you grow in consciousness; for God is ever giving just what we expect!" Myrtle Fillmore's Healing Letters. |
| Your Weekly Affirmation:
GOD RESTORES TO ME ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES AND BLESSINGS THAT SEEMED TO BE GONE, JUST AS FAST AS I AM READY FOR THEM. GOD ALWAYS WILL. AS I REALIZE THAT TRUTH IS STILL TRUE, I RETURN TO IT. I ALWAYS WILL.
THANK YOU, GOD! |
