This Sunday @ UCC:
Lesson Title: Turn Here
“Jonah’s Story,” or “How to Turn Your Life Around”

When my best thinking has gotten me into my worst situations, the only way I can change my life is by changing my thinking.

To turn a negative experience around, I forgive, I listen with my heart, and I turn my thoughts in a positive direction.

I wake up from self-limiting thought. I bless and give thanks, as I take a new direction toward the ceaseless flow of my own good.

I stop resisting my inner guidance and I take a “right turn,” even if it means kicking and screaming down the path of transformation.

Heart of the House - Russ Hammock
In the early 80s, Russ Hammock was actively involved in heavy metal bands, first as a drummer for BRAT, then Thunder. Born into a pioneer Pinellas County family, the first son of the late Leon Russell Hammock, Sr. and Roberta (Bobbie) Riddell Hammock was not attending or planning to attend any church. Enter an attractive, auburn-haired Unity minister, the Rev. Dr. Leddy Hammock, and the couple married on December 14, 1985. Five years later, on May 27, they welcomed a son, Levi Russell Lowell Hammock.

Today, Russ is Director of Operations at UCC, where he claims to do “nothing in front of a mic.” Yet, it is Russ, as lead audio engineer with the tech team who runs the sound that is integral to every Sunday morning service. He is also in charge of purchasing and maintenance and technical issues, audiovisual and computer related, at the church and at Peace Cottage, plus organizer of meetups, eNews and marketing, all contributing to longer hours at UCC than at home.

All this and the musical More: Right after graduating from Clearwater High School, Russ started forming bands. He had wanted to play drums since 4th grade, but lessons were delayed until he was 13. (The school band director decided he should play trumpet.) For 13 years, the bands were his life while working in the corner service station (where he met Leddy), plus the odd jobs that he and fellow band members were hired to do to earn funds for recording studio time.

THE POWER OF BLESSING WORKS ON CARS!

“I once knew two businesswomen who blessed and gave thanks for the cars they were driving. The first woman was driving a very old car. As she praised, blessed, and gave thanks for this car, rather than criticizing, or condemning it, her car functioned perfectly for her. As she continued to follow the example of Jesus in feeding the five thousand, by similarly praising and giving thanks for the substance at hand, it multiplied. In a short time, she was financially able to buy a new car and was given an amazingly generous trade-in allowance on the old one.

The other woman had purchased her car new and immediately began praising and blessing it. The result was that it seemed never to grow old but continued to give her unusually good service. She drove it for more than a decade before trading it in on a new one.”
