This Sunday @ UCC:
Take a Step - Leddy Hammock
(inspired by lyrics by Harold Payne):

I walk in the footsteps of those who’ve gone before. And this road I travel on will lift me up and make me strong.

I get my inspiration from the words of the children. I’m trying to teach myself what they already know.

If I can show my fellow man what a child can understand then the seeds that I have sown will surely grow.

If I take one step in the right direction, if I touch one heart along the way, and if that one step becomes a chain reaction, then my journey has not been in vain.

June Heart of the House - Maureen Becklund
Born and raised in Kennebunk Maine, Maureen Becklund came to Florida 21 years ago. At 49, “surprised” with a pending divorce, she was persuaded by her son, a Florida college student, to begin a new life in a warmer climate.

Maureen chose Clearwater because the Becklunds owned, in Kennebunk, a water purification company called Clearwater Systems. She flew down and purchased the house that she lives in today.

“Here I am,” Maureen recalls, “in an unfamiliar place without a stick of furniture, a dish or even a bath towel. And, no job! So, I bought a lawn chair and am sitting in my living room, trying to decide what my next chapter will be, and, can I make it as a single middle-aged woman? I needed time to test myself, so I booked a six-week trip on the Orient Express. Traveling alone, not speaking any of the languages, and figuring out the foreign currencies was quite liberating.”

PEOPLE WHO BOTHER US JUST WANT OUR DIVINE ATTENTION.

“A nurse found great comfort and truth in these words, after she was seriously injured in a collision with a car driven by an intoxicated man. After recovering she returned to her nursing profession. Again and again the man responsible for the collision was admitted to the hospital where she worked–and always he was in an intoxicated state. She refused to nurse him, and was assured by his doctor that she wold not be assigned to his case.

Once when he was admitted, there was a shortage of nurses on her floor, and she was the only nurse available when the light came on in his room. Since it was unavoidable, she took him his tray and medicine. When she appeared, he told her he had been worried about her financial affairs after the accident, realizing that she was widowed with children to care for.
In the wee hours of the morning, as they talked, he asked her forgiveness, and she gave it. The amazing thing was that, following their conversation, he gradually stopped drinking, and she never heard of his being admitted to that hospital again. She realized that the man seemed to have wanted her forgiveness and blessing. When he got that, he faded out of her life.”
