New Class Series: Lessons in Truth
Begins Tue, Mar 3
7:00 PM
Café

Want to learn more about Unity? This is the class for that!

Join Associate Minister, Judy Tafelski, for a new class series, Lessons in Truth, based on the same title of the book by Dr. H. Emilie Cady. Lessons in Truth and the Bible are Unity’s two primary textbooks.

Unity Co-founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore published the original series of Lessons in Truth by Dr. H. Emilie Cady in Modern Thought, the origin of Unity magazine.

Renowned poet Maya Angelou, who received the first honorary doctorate presented by Unity Institute, said Lessons in Truth changed her life. Dr. Angelou was introduced to Unity while studying with a voice teacher. They met weekly to read from Lessons in Truth.

She said: “I read from a book called Lessons in Truth…’God loves me’.” Her teacher asked her to read that same line three times; on the fourth read, she read “with ferocity-forceful: God. Loves. Me.” Dr. Angelou goes on: “And, at that moment, I knew it. I knew it! I thought, ‘God? That which made bees and mountains and water? That? Loves me? Maya Angelou? Well then, there’s nothing I can’t do. I can do anything good…fifty years later, I could weep with joy at the knowledge that I am loved by Love itself.”

All Are Welcome! All UCC classes are offered on a free will love offering basis.
Concert: Pam Rose
Mon, Mar 23
7:00 PM
Peace Chapel

UCC Welcomes emPower Posi Award Recipient & Two Time Grammy Nominee Pam Rose!

Few voices have the power to cut to the bone like Pam Rose’s. Layer that over her profound songwriting gift and her consummate musicianship on an assortment of instruments, and you begin to get a glimpse of a real artist.

With longtime writing partner Mary Ann Kennedy, Rose has been nominated for two GRAMMY Awards, and has won praise for her powerful alliance with Mary Ann as the acclaimed duo Kennedy Rose. The twosome won the ear of rock star Sting and recorded two CDs for his private label Pangaea Records, a label he founded for “uncategorizable music”. As an added treat, they were asked to open for him on one of his World Tours. As special guests of Emmylou Harris, Kennedy Rose also performed twice for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton, and later at the Nobel Peace Prize Presentation in Oslo, Norway.

A Thought about Contagion from a Christian Science Writer
"Amid reports of contagion, it can seem inevitable for a percentage of us to be vulnerable and in danger. But prayer that encompasses everyone and acknowledges God as the inexhaustible source of health can lift us out of the swirl of fear and be a calming, healing influence.

In light of today’s 24-hour news cycle, it seems clear to me that we can have a positive impact by taking a daily “dose” of the peace and power of individual clarity and spiritual wholeness. Prayer can lift us out of the swirl of fear, and it can be a calming, healing influence in our communities as well.

No matter how widespread a contagion may be – even if it’s encircling the globe – it will never be more powerful than the all-encompassing, inviolate presence of divine Life, embracing each one of us in its safety and care. And our consistent acknowledgment of this fact for everyone, everywhere, makes it possible, right here and now, for us to see evidence that God alone truly does govern and sustain our health." -- A Christian Science Perspective with a Unity ring to it!
Heart of the House - Deb Larkin
“We came. We heard. We stayed,” says Deb Larkin of her 2015 introduction to UCC. Her father, then a snowbird, often walked by the church and suggested they try it. “We saw Janet Whedon (a teacher, whose classroom had been next to Deb’s) playing the drums. Leddy’s teaching, not preaching, resonated with both Dad and me. She grounded us and gave us peace.”

Deb would later find the mid-week prayer and meditation service with Judy “just the boost” she needed. She also enjoyed the camraderie with members on Service Saturdays, and, last March organized a successful bingo benefit night at Hamburger Mary’s in St. Petersburg. Now, she is “humbled” to be a candidate for Unity’s Board of Directors.

Born and raised in Norristown, PA, Deb lived there until she and her wife Carla moved to Florida in 2009. Coming to a warmer climate was easy and she wanted to be involved in her two-year-old nephew’s life, having cared for him over a holiday break. Carla was hired as a CFO for a non-profit, and Deb, a retired health and physical education teacher, became a prevention specialist at Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School.

Scientific religion

“One who knows Principle has a certain inner security given him by the understanding of God-Mind. Our affirmations are for the purpose of establishing in our consciousness a broad understanding of the principles on which all life and existence depend. Our religion is based on a science in which ideas are related to Principle and to other ideas in a great universal Mind that works under mental laws. It is not a new religion nor a religious fad but points out the real and the true in any religion. If you know Principle, you are able to know at once whether a religion is founded on facts or has a basis of man-made ideas.

(Charles Fillmore Cofounder of the Unity Movement in Prosperity [1936] -- Lesson Four: Man, the Inlet and Outlet of Divine Mind).
Your Weekly Prosperity Affirmation:

“I AM SECURE IN MY FAITH, WHICH IS BASED ON THE UNIVERSAL PRINCIPLES IN ANY RELIGION. IT WORKS WHEN I WORK IT.”
