This month's Heart of the House is a little different than usual. Leddy's dad, Unity minister Lowell Turner, was mentioned in the July/August edition of Unity Magazine. We thought you'd enjoy reading about the origin of the Peace Mural that's in our Peace Chapel in this adapted version of the article:
SWEET, PETITE PRAYER CHAPEL
Have you ever thought about prosperity in terms of peace? I seldom take the time to ponder the prosperous benefits my body receives whenever I enter into the Silence and become one with peace–unless, that is, I happen to find myself at the intersection of desperate and frazzled.
Luckily, Unity Village offers many places where taking a deep breath is encouraged. One such place I visited recently is the Peace Chapel, located just west of Fillmore Chapel on the north side of the Education Building. While many visitors to campus have no idea this tiny chapel exists, it’s open 24/7 for anyone who wants to spend a little time in quiet solitude. To get there, walk along the west side of the building (the side facing the tower). The chapel juts out of that side, its only entrance the exterior doors at the far end of the portico.

In latter part of the 1800s a remarkable confluence of people united to change the world of philosophy, art, science and religion. These people, Helena Blavatsky, Henry Olcott, and others gave to the world a timeless set of principles now called Theosophy or the Ageless Wisdom. They united the east and the west both in the printed word and geographically. Their words reverberate to us even today not only in books and articles, but by the changes that have come about in fields of philosophy art, science and religion.
Judith Snow, a long-time student of the Teachings, will introduce us to these people, expound on their teachings and present how their influence continuous to expand our universe even today.

[St. John – in the Book of Revelations – speaks of writing to the angels of seven “churches” (types of spiritual consciousness).]
“There are seven types of people you can reach by writing to their angels.
‘TO THE ANGEL OF THE CHURCH IN THYATIRA WRITE. . . ’”
“Thyatira means ‘rushing headlong, frantic, zealous, quarrelsome, easily offended.’ People of this type [may] have greater ideals than [developed] inner ability for producing idealistic results. Thyatirans are quite often interested in athletics.
A housewife learned that the instructor at a health club was being harsh with the teenage boys he was instructing. Though her son and his friends were upset by this harsh treatment, they did not wish her to interfere, feeling that would bring only more scorn from their instructor. The mother asked the boys to begin writing to the angel of their instructor, decreeing fair treatment and understanding. She joined them in their angel-writing project.
For a time no results were apparent. Suddenly, however, the instructor announced he was leaving his job to take a better position with a local college. Along with an increased income, the new job would allow him time to work on his master’s degree, which had long been his desire. The mother then realized that the young instructor’s harsh treatment apparently had stemmed from his own frustration and job dissatisfaction. The amazing result was that this woman’s son later won a trophy from the health club–a trophy topped with the figure of an angel!
