This Sunday @ UCC:
Lesson Title: Off the Deep End

From lyrics by Karen Drucker - “Let Go of the Shore”

“Let go of the shore, and let the water carry you.
Let go of the shore. Float into the mystery . . . .

You have all you need. It’s all inside of you.
Just close your eyes and breathe, and know that you are safe.

Let go of the shore and let the water carry you.
Let go of the shore. Float into the mystery . . . .

No need to make a plan. Your hearts will be your compass.
Lift yourselves in faith and trust that you will arrive.

Let go of the shore and let the water carry you.
Let go of the shore. Float into the mystery.”

THE GENIUS OF SAINT PAUL

“Paul, who has been described as the ‘versatile genius’ of the early Christian church, had a prosperous background that prepared him for the great work that lay ahead. He and his parents were devout Jews who belonged to the well-to-do working class but who enjoyed the distinction of Roman citizenship. This was an honor that provided them with a great many privileges . Paul (at that time known as Saul), received a find education, studying with Gamaliel, one of the most progressive teachers of his time. In later life, Paul placed much emphasis upon God as the source of [our] supply, writing bo the Philippians, ‘My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.’ He also emphasized the necessity for systematic giving (in order to insure systematic receiving) when he wrote to the Corinthians, ‘On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that contributions need not be made when I come.’ And it was a businesswoman, Lydia of Thyatira, who first sponsored Paul’s missionary work in Europe. Her home became the meeting place of the early Christians there.”
