This Sunday @ UCC:
Lesson Title: More than Enough
Inspired by lyrics by Jana Stanfield:

I give and serve in love, so I always have more than enough of all that I need to do all I can do and to be all I can be.

Compared to where we were, we’ve come all this far. Let us spend the day enjoying where we are.

We learn to give generously and to receive gratefully.

We take a quick look back at dreams of yesterday – dreams of living the life that we live today.

We no longer spend so much time wanting so much more when there’s plenty here for us all to be thankful for.

As I go through this day, this is my creed: I have more than enough of all that I need. I fearlessly pay the full asking price and I always have more than enough of all that I need.
Concert: Sloan Wainwright & Glen Roethel

Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright, consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid.

Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs.

Somewhere between Folk and Rock, classic and modern, pop and abstract there walks a very fine award-winning singer-songwriter named Glen Roethel. His powerful baritone-tenor voice recalls the more playful melodies of his favorite, Cat Stevens. When he plays it can be hard to tell where his arm ends and the guitar begins, so blink and you might miss something good. But don’t worry, he knows why you are really there – to have a great time.

Glen tours singing his own songs with guitar and ukulele – often improvising new songs on-the-fly – and even providing custom songwriting for special events.

April Heart of the House - Deanna Harless
Encouraged by a friend, Deanna Harless first came to UCC in 2001. Not considering herself “religious” but interested in metaphysics and quantum physics, she thought she might not like going to church. She couldn’t have been more wrong. “I cried happy tears,” she says, “here, they spoke my language.” She recalls three memorable benefits from Leddy’s lesson that Sunday: affirmations, scripture reading, and even wisdom from the Torah. And, the music ministry “topped it off.”

Deanna’s love of Unity is a predictable outgrowth of her late mother’s inspiring her children to always seek Truth, to follow their own spiritual paths. She and her three brothers were given “free reins” by her loving and optimistic example, Deanna says.

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED . . . .

“Remember that Elijah had to keep praying and affirming for a long time before he demonstrated the rain. He sent his servant out the fist time, and there was no sign of a cloud. He prayed and sent him out again and again with the same result; but at last, after repeated efforts, the servant said he saw a little cloud. Then Elijah told them to prepare for rain, and the rain came. This shows a continuity of effort that is sometimes necessary. If your prosperity does not become manifest as soon as you pray and affirm God as your substance, your supply, and your support, refuse to give up. Show your faith by keeping up the work. You have plenty of Scripture to back you up.”
