This Sunday @ UCC: Here for a Reason - Leddy Hammock
|
|
from You’re Here for a Reason by Nancy Tilllman
“You’re here for a reason, you certainly are. The world would be different without you, by far. If not for your hands and your eyes and your feet, the world, like a puzzle,
would be incomplete. Even the smallest of things that you do blossom and multiply far beyond you.” . . .
“You’re here for a reason. If you think you’re not, I would just say that perhaps you forgot – a piece of the world that is precious and dear would surely be missing if you weren’t here.
If not for your smile and your laugh and your heart, this place we call home would be minus a part.
Thank goodness you’re here! Thank goodness times two! I just can’t imagine a world without you.
You are loved.” |

| Tue, July 25 - TBD 7:00 PM Café
Eric Butterworth's inspiring tour de force, the author shares the greatest discovery of all time: the ability to see the divine within us all. Jesus saw this divine dimension in every human being, and Butterworth reveals this hidden and untapped resource to be a source of limitless abundance. Exploring this "depth potential," Butterworth outlines ways in which we can release the power locked within us for better health, greater confidence, increased success, and inspired openness to let our "light shine" forth for others.

| | | Our own Josh Whedon (his Mom Janet plays drums and sings in the UCC band) has won the Wichita State University School of Performing Art's 44th Annual National Playwriting Competition.
The school will be performing Josh's play "States of Happiness" from Sept 27-Oct 1. Leddy and Russ are excited to be joining Josh and Janet for the opening night along with Leddy's son Steve and his wife Marilyn.
Meet the Playwright! Joshua Whedon is a recent graduate from the University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies with minors in creative writing and film. During his undergraduate career, he was featured in several plays at Theatre UCF, including ALMOST MAINE and HEDDA GABLER. STATES OF HAPPINESS was first conceived as a ten minute play for an independent study during his senior year. As of now, it is his first full-length piece being performed. Josh currently resides in Orlando and is employed at Universal Studios. |
| | | Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions at St. Petersburg College presents: Laughter, Awakening and Evolution with Swami Beyondananda
Thur, Sept 28 7:00 - 8:15 PM Seminole Campus Conference Center St Petersburg College 9200 113th St N, Seminole (map)
Comedy is an ancient form of political commentary, dating to the Greek Comedies of the sixth century BC. Comedy serves as a social corrective, for beneath the laughter are layers of social commentary that force us to confront realities that we might prefer to ignore.
Humorist Steve Bhaerman uses his unique brand of political comedy to make serious observations about life, politics and the state of civil discourse in a divided country. As Swami Beyondananda, he promotes a “conscious evolution” – an understanding of life as “a spiritual, intentional process.”
Seating is limited and online registration is required. Includes dinner & program: $25 Guests $20 Students & Educators

Please check in at the welcome counter in the lobby after church, so that one of our helpers can make sure your info is current.
This will be an ongoing project, so stop by any Sunday that's convenient.

| | | | PROSPERITY IS DIVINELY APPROVED.
“An analyst recently stated that he had found that one of the greatest causes of failure in people is confused thought about whether success is divinely approved or condemned. Many of the business people he treats express the belief that failure is spiritually approved, rather than success, citing the words of Jesus, ‘You cannot serve God and mammon.’ This doctor says he has spent manyu an hour explaining t ohis patients that being success-minded is not serving mammon, and that they should stop using God as an excuse for their failures. The dictionary defines mammon as ‘the demon of cupidity.’ [We don’t believe in actual “demons” in Unity – just negative, self-limiting beliefs that are to be overcome.] Serving mammon means leaving God out of one’s financial affairs and trying to succeed alone, through purely human methods.
God pointed out the right spiritual attitude toward prosperity when He instructed Moses to remind the Children of Israel: ‘You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.’ One definition of the word wealth is ‘well-being.’ That is what [we] should be working toward and should expect as [our] spiritual heritage.”
