That Stone by Leddy Hammock, for Palm Sunday, 3-28, 2021

The heaviest stone we carry is the weight we won’t forgive.
If we drop the sin and let light in, that’s when we start to live.
The place of tears is just a resting place we will survive –
More life to live, more love to give, for love is alive.

The Truth seems hard to understand when we don’t want to know.
And the hardest stone to get around is the one we won’t let go.
Looking for a place to lay the blame makes it hard to find our way.
Decide, let God be glorified. You’ll have a better day.

A man born blind was ready to be healed on the Sabbath day.
“I once was blind but now I see” was all he had to say.
Some picked up rocks to stone Him with, but Jesus got away.
He crossed the Jordan with His friends – a resting place to stay.

On the other side, in Bethany, where groves of fig trees grew
Lived Lazarus, Martha and Mary, a family Jesus knew.
Not ready, they sent word: “The one You love has fallen ill,”
as if to say, “We know that You can heal him if You will.”

But Jesus waited two more days to go to see His friend,
What seemed like death to others, He knew wouldn’t be the end.
The place of tears is just a resting place, a pause to take.
He said He’d go to Lazarus and the youth would be awake.

The sisters cried, “He wouldn’t have died if You’d been in Bethany.
He said “Where have you laid him,” they answered sadly, “Come and see.”
Somehow it gives me comfort that the company He kept,
Who loved Him, sometimes still felt sorrow. Even Jesus wept.

Some said, why couldn’t He who made a man born blind to see
Have done something for Lazarus so this didn’t have to be?
There is a subtle timing in the journey of a soul.
Lazarus had to be ready, it seems, before that rock could roll.

He told them, “Take the stone away,” and then looked up to pray,
“Thank You, Father, for hearing Me,” and then they heard Him say,
“I know You always hear Me,” everyone could hear Him shout,
“I know You always hear me.” Then said, “Lazarus, come out!”

He said, “Loose him and let him go,” and Lazarus was free.
To walk when he was ready, he had all eternity.
The place of tears is just a resting place we will survive –
More life to live, more love to give, for love is alive.

I often think of Lazarus at that banquet with his friends,
How Jesus had known all along true friendship never ends.
How wondrous to imagine seeing Lazarus with Him,
With all of them together going to Jerusalem. . . .
Where, when the time was right, on that Resurrection Day,
   another stone—that stone—would roll away.
Easter Sunday: - New Day
Inspired by lyrics to “It’s a Brand New Day” (by Glen Roethel, Sue Riley, & Richard Mekdeci):

”It’s a brand new day, it’s a brand new day . . . . The power of love has rolled that stone away . . . . It’s a brand new day.

Faith can move a mountain, part that stormy sea. Love can be a fountain pouring over me. Hope can build a future so we can truly say. The past is past, free at last, it’s a brand new day . . . . The power of love has rolled that stone away . . . .

Doubts become believing that death can be destroyed. Painful loss and grieving, can open us to joy.

A dawn of resurrection can chase our fears away. The past is past, free at last, it’s a brand new day! The power of love has rolled that stone away! . . . It’s a brand new day.”
Good Friday Service
Friday
11:00 AM
Facebook Only

For more than three decades here at UCC, we have set aside a time of contemplation on Good Friday between noon and 3:00 PM - the hours when, according to the Gospels, Jesus spoke seven times from the cross in preparation for His great demonstration over death.

This year at 11:00 AM, we will present a half hour prayer service with special music on Facebook, for contemplation of this powerful spiritual process.  We are one in Spirit as we honor the Silence as guided throughout the day and evening as we share in this powerful and transformative spiritual preparation for Easter.

What is Emotional Freedom Tapping (EFT)

Your body is more powerful than you may imagine, filled with life, energy, and a compelling ability for self-healing.

Like acupuncture and acupressure, Tapping is a set of techniques that utilize the body’s energy meridian points. You can stimulate these meridian points by tapping on them with your fingertips, literally tapping into your body’s own energy and healing power.

Gather with a great group of positive and supportive folks with healing in mind!

Next week's movie will be Cecil B. DeMille's classic silent movie "King of Kings" (1927) with H.B. Warner, Dorothy Cumming & Ernest Torrence

You can also watch a great trailer here

The 155 minute 1927 silent movie, "King of Kings" by Cecil B. DeMille about events leading to the Resurrection is a fantastical portrayal of biblical characters. Mary Magdalene is shown as a wild courtesan who rides out on her chariot drawn by zebras to bring back Judas, her paramour (?!). Peter is shown as the "giant apostle" and the future gospel writer Mark is shown as a child whom Jesus (H. B. Warner) heals. Only the Resurrection scene is shown in color in this impactful film. We expect interesting discussion of how Hollywood has influenced our religious impressions.

Spring Cleaning at UCC!
Nice job on the hall closet by Geoff Mackey!

Mary Elliott came in and dusted and polished everything on the platform in the Sanctuary!

If anybody else wants to step up to come alone or with others of the same households (or with other fully vaccinated folks) to tackle a deep cleaning and freshening, top to bottom, of various areas on an afternoon, Tues-Fri this Spring, please let us know!

You can email info@unityofclearwater to claim your space and let us know what day and time you’d like to come make a favorite area of the Church sparkle this springtime.
How You Can Donate
We're checking mail every day, so checks sent through the mail are fine, as are checks sent from your bank's online bill pay.

The easiest option is our online donation form which can be found at: https://www.unityofclearwater.org/giving/

If you feel led you might consider setting up an automatic recurring donation. This can be done through your bank's bill pay or on the Church's donation form.

We've also been asked about the processing fees the church has to pay when the online form is used. The fees are a small percentage (3&-4%) of the total donation, however there is an option to cover fees that you may select if you feel so inclined. Every little bit helps and we're grateful if you decide to turn that option on.

UCC Contributes Monthly to Feeding Tampa Bay
UCC continues to contribute to FeedingTampaBay.org.  They have doubled their weekly meals distributed from 1 million meals to 2 million, establishing six weekly mega pantries serving nearly 10,000 families each week and converting their mobile pantries to a drive-thru model for increased distribution and safety.  Message from "Rosie" on the organization's site:  "I'm a full time caregiver to my husband, . . . . The food provided by Feeding Tampa Bay has helped us enormously.  The meals are well balanced . . . and taste great!  We really appreciate the help during this time."
Healing Thought # 53
“And they went to a place which was called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here, while I pray.’ . . . . And going a little farther, He said, ‘Abba, Father, all things are possible to Thee; remove this cup from me; yet not my will, but Thine be done.”

Let us pray: “With enlightened vision I see that only the good is enduringly true; all that is less than good that God has for me comes not to endure, but comes to pass. I know that what God wills for me, He also helps me to fulfill, and that His will for me is good, good beyond my present understanding. So I pray that where I do not clearly see, I shall have faith to place my hand in that of our dear Christ until faith has grown to sight, and darkness gives way to dawn—the dawn of every-expanding insight and understanding” (Ernest Wilson, in “Gethsemane” in The Week that Changed the World, 1968).
OUR WEEKLY AFFIRMATION:

“DARKNESS NOW GIVES WAY TO DAWN OF EVER-EXPANDING INSIGHT & UNDERSTANDING. A NEW DAY HAS COME!”

THANK YOU, GOD!
