This Sunday @ UCC:
Lesson Title: Get Over This
|
|
Inspired by lyrics by Scott Ainslie to “Cold in Here”
“I thought I felt a little cool breeze come through. What shall we do? Don’t it feel cold in here to you? Turn up the heat. Warm up your feet.” Loving, patient, and warm words take the chill out of the air between us – from the top of our heads to the tip of our toes.
“Turn on the light, nothing seems right.” It’s up to me to turn to the light that shines within, even when things seem dark. When I look with love, I let the light come on again.
“Come back again, I’ll make you laugh, just wait and see. It’s all right. Day breaks the night.” Our inner Voice tells us that the sun always comes up again. It feels so right to know that we can get past the tears and laugh again.
“What’s done is past. Love’s all that lasts.” When it feels “cold in here,” we shall remember that love is the “good kind” of global warming. |

Songwriter, Performer, Teacher
A truly unforgettable evening with Scott Ainslie!
Scott Ainslie’s mother found him at the family piano picking out melodies from the records she listened to during the day when he was three years old.
He’s been a musician all his life.
A Phi Beta Kappa and honors graduate of Washington & Lee University, Ainslie came of age during the Civil Rights era, and cultivated a powerful affinity for cross-cultural exchange. He has studied with elder musicians on both sides of the color line – in the Old-Time Southern Appalachian fiddle and banjo traditions, as well as Black Gospel and Blues. He plays this music with affection, authority, and power.
Armed with a variety of instruments – vintage guitars, a fretless gourd banjo, a one-string, homemade diddley bow (aka cigar box guitar) and carefully chosen historical personal anecdotes of his encounters with senior musicians across the South – Ainslie brings the history, roots music, and sounds of America alive.

| | Mon, Nov 18 7:00 PM
Sanctuary
The presentation begins with a song… followed by another song… that moves into a poem and then… an invitation. This is not just another evening of talk.
This is not just a concert of songs that just entertain.
Deeper Than the Skin” is a experience of singing and listening… of experiencing a connection so deep that it makes you laugh, smile, cry and reconsider what you know about our history. It’s an invitation to open your heart and mind to a story of shared humanity that resonates with your own.
|
| Two
friends… one Black, one White… one from the North… one from the South!
Musicians, storytellers, students of history and world travelers… born 3
day apart! Two separate narratives forged into one powerful friendship
aimed at finding common ground and helping others to do the same.
Deeper
Than the Skin brings together a remarkable journey that started 30
years ago and is now offering hope to people all over the nation. It’s a
presentation that ends with an open dialogue that moves the audience
from emotion into action…that gives voice and direction to the question
“What can I do?”
Deeper That the Skin is an interactive, engaging
invitation to take a step into a new reality. It’s an affirmation of
the notion that a more perfect union begins…. with us!

| | | With so many wireless mics in use we go through a pretty fair amount of AA batteries. While we can't rely on them to power the mics after one use, they're generally great for tv remotes, alarm clocks, etc.
If you could use a couple they're available for free at the bookstore counter.

| | | | “Spiritual thoughts are infinite in their potentiality, each one being measured by the life, intelligence, and substance with which it is expressed. The thought is brought into expression and activity by the word. Every word is a thought in activity, and when spoken it goes out as a vibratory force that is registered in the all-providing substance.
The mightiest vibration is set up by speaking the name Jesus Christ. This is the name that is named ‘far above all rule, and authority,’ the name above all names, holding in itself all power in heaven and in earth. It is the name that has power to mold the universal substance. It is at one with the Father-Mother substance, and when spoken it sets forces into activity that bring results. ‘Whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.’ ‘If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.’ There could be nothing simpler, easier, or freer from conditions in demonstrating supply. ‘Hitherto . . . have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be made full’”
(Charles Fillmore Cofounder of the Unity Movement in Prosperity [1936] -- Lesson Two: Spiritual Mind, the Omnipresent Directive Principle of Prosperity). |
