Lesson Title: Freedom
Lyrics from “I Am Free” by Sloan Wainwright:

“I am free, right where I am — a piece of the puzzle, a part of the plan.

I am free. I cleaned up my debt. I take time to accept all the beauty around me.

I won’t walk like a slave today, chained by my regret. My past and my future fade. I forgive, I won’t forget.

Still, I am free. By the Truth in each moment, by the love heaven sent, in my heart, I believe I am free.

I won’t talk like a slave today, suffering to survive. My past and my future fade. I find myself alive.

I am free. Right where I am – a piece of the puzzle, a part of the plan.

I am free. I follow my breath, mindful with each step of this curious journey!

I am free!”

Heart of the House - Maggie Cook
On June 17 (Father’s Day), we are honored to present guest speaker, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and ordained Unity Minister, Maria Magdalena De la Cruz Cook Garcia (Maggie).  Maggie is the creator of Maggie’s Award winning All-Natural Fresh Salsa’s and Dips, a food manufacturing company that distributes its organic products across the country.  Maggie was born and raised in an orphanage in the mountains of central Mexico along with seven biological siblings. Her parents cared for over two hundred abandoned and abused children, legally adopting over sixty children over time.

Maggie and her siblings were raised in poverty, often struggling for basic necessities of life, including shelter, food, clothing, shoes, and medical care.   Many of the children had endured terrible abuse before coming to the orphanage.  In her book, Mindful Success – How to Use Your Mind to Transform Your Life: from Orphanage to Millionaire, Maggie tells of personal demonstration of the prosperity principles she learned and applied in her life that made her a success, journeying from being raised in poverty in Mexico to being homeless in winter in the streets of America, to starting a business with a gift of $800 from a stranger, to becoming a multimillion dollar success.  Her life story is one of meeting both high hopes and deep disappointments. Against all seeming odds, she learned to speak and write English; she earned three academic scholarship, as well as scholarships in three sports:  basketball, soccer, and rowing!  Maggie graduated with medals, championships, and awards, plus a degree in interior design from the University of Charleston in 2002.  Then, she was ordained as a Unity Minister at Renaissance Unity in Warren, Michigan and has settled in Clearwater with her husband, Owen Cook.

JESUS HAD NOTHING AGAINST MONEY

“Jesus obviously had nothing against money, because He unhesitatingly called Matthew, a tax collector for the Romans, to be one of his apostles. Later He appointed Judas as treasurer for Himself and the apostles, showing His appreciation of the orderly handling of money. When a rich man came to Jesus and asked what he must do to inherit eternal life, the Scripture records that ‘Jesus looking upon him loved him.’ When Jesus told the man to sell what he had in order to inherit eternal life, it was (we believe) because He knew that the man was controlled by his possessions. Jesus’ comment was, ‘How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!’”
