This Sunday @ UCC: Lesson Title: Faith & Begorrah
|
|
An Irish Blessing –
“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm upon your face; the rains falls soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. |
| | Juniper Returns to UCC this Sunday
|
| Sun, Mar 17 10:30 AM Sanctuary
We're excited to announce that the wonderful Irish Duo called Juniper will return to provide music for us on Sunday March 17.
Juniper blends Traditional Celtic, Alternative Folk and Americana music in an eclectic experience which transports their fans into a world of sweet harmonies and moving
melodies.
|
| Acclaimed musicians and recording artists Frances Pisacane
and Jasmine Hart weave a tight musical tapestry from the sounds which
have endured and entertained for over five centuries.
As an added bonus this year Frances' son Eugene will perform with them. Eugene is a champion Irish step dancer! |
| | Guest Musician: Scott Ainslie
|
| Sun, Mar 24 10:30 AM Sanctuary
An Extraordinary Musician, Teacher, & Historian!
Scott Ainslie’s mother found him at the family piano picking out melodies from the records she listened to during the day when he was three years old.
He’s been a musician all his life.
A Phi Beta Kappa and honors graduate of Washington & Lee University, Ainslie came of age during the Civil Rights era, and cultivated a powerful affinity for cross-cultural exchange. He has studied with elder musicians on both sides of the color line – in the Old-Time Southern Appalachian fiddle and banjo traditions, as well as Black Gospel and Blues. He plays this music with affection, authority, and power.
Armed with a variety of instruments – vintage guitars, a fretless gourd banjo, a one-string, homemade diddley bow (aka cigar box guitar) and carefully chosen historical personal anecdotes of his encounters with senior musicians across the South – Ainslie brings the history, roots music, and sounds of America alive.

His songs are recorded and performed all over the world on a weekly basis. Recent media appearances of Daniel's music include NBC, FOX, CNN, CBS, PBS, E!, MTV, History, IFC, Bravo, and movie theaters across the United States.

| | Concert: Sloan Wainwright & Glen Roethel
|
| Fri, Apr 5 7:00 PM Peace Chapel
Sloan Wainwright
Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright, consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid.
|
| Glen Roethel
Somewhere
between Folk and Rock, classic and modern, pop and abstract there walks
a very fine award-winning singer-songwriter named Glen Roethel. His
powerful baritone-tenor voice recalls the more playful melodies of his
favorite, Cat Stevens. When he plays it can be hard to tell where his
arm ends and the guitar begins, so blink and you might miss something
good. But don’t worry, he knows why you are really there – to have a
great time.

| | | THE MARVELOUS PROSPERITY PRAYER OF THE PSALMIST
“It is also good to go right ahead and affirm . . . [the] decree of the Psalmist:
‘Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows.’ This is a marvelous prosperity prayer. The head symbolizes wisdom and understanding. Oil denotes wealth. The Psalmist was saying, in effect, ‘God has anointed my understanding with rich ideas, and with rich results. Because of this, my cup runs over. My good overflows.’
Please note that the Psalmist stated this affirmation in the past tense. He was saying, in effect, ‘It is already done in consciousness.’ Our good is already finished, completed, on the invisible plane. In order to bring it forth, we have to reach that place in our thinking where we decree in faith that it is already done, manifested, even though we do not yet see visible results.”
(Catherine Ponder in The Prospering Power of Love [Unity School of Christianity, 1966]
