Lesson Title: Change Is Coming
“There been times that I thought I couldn’t last for long,

But now I think I’m able, I’m able, to carry on.

It’s been a long time comin’, but change is gonna come.

I know that a change is gonna come one day.” – “Sam Cooke, “A Change Is Gonna Come” (1963)

“You and I, dear reader, have already ‘come to ourselves.’ Having become conscious of an oppressive bondage, we have arisen and set out on the journey . . . to the land of liberty, and now we cannot turn back if we would. Though possibly there will come times to each of us, before we reach the land of milk and honey (the time of full deliverance out of all our sorrows and troubles), when we shall come into a deep wilderness or against an impassable Red Sea, when our principle will seem to fail, yet does God say to each one of us . . . : ‘Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will show to you’” -- H. Emilie Cady in “Bondage Or Liberty, Which?” in Lessons in Truth (1894-5).

One thing is for sure: no matter how impossible the situation may look or how long it has been an issue, the error cannot stand indefinitely. When the time is right, positive change is going to come.

Blues Master & Historian - Scott Ainslie
Mon, Nov 11
7:00 PM
Peace Chapel

Songwriter, Performer, Teacher

A truly unforgettable evening with Scott Ainslie!

Scott Ainslie’s mother found him at the family piano picking out melodies from the records she listened to during the day when he was three years old.

He’s been a musician all his life.

A Phi Beta Kappa and honors graduate of Washington & Lee University, Ainslie came of age during the Civil Rights era, and cultivated a powerful affinity for cross-cultural exchange. He has studied with elder musicians on both sides of the color line – in the Old-Time Southern Appalachian fiddle and banjo traditions, as well as Black Gospel and Blues. He plays this music with affection, authority, and power.

Armed with a variety of instruments – vintage guitars, a fretless gourd banjo, a one-string, homemade diddley bow (aka cigar box guitar) and carefully chosen historical personal anecdotes of his encounters with senior musicians across the South – Ainslie brings the history, roots music, and sounds of America alive.

Deeper than the Skin: A Concert - A Workshop - A Service
Reggie Harris & Greg Greenway

Mon, Nov 18
7:00 PM
Sanctuary

The presentation begins with a song… followed by another song… that moves into a poem and then… an invitation.

This is not just another evening of talk.

This is not just a concert of songs that just entertain.

Deeper Than the Skin” is a experience of singing and listening… of experiencing a connection so deep that it makes you laugh, smile, cry and reconsider what you know about our history. It’s an invitation to open your heart and mind to a story of shared humanity that resonates with your own.
Two friends… one Black, one White… one from the North… one from the South! Musicians, storytellers, students of history and world travelers… born 3 day apart! Two separate narratives forged into one powerful friendship aimed at finding common ground and helping others to do the same.

Deeper Than the Skin brings together a remarkable journey that started 30 years ago and is now offering hope to people all over the nation. It’s a presentation that ends with an open dialogue that moves the audience from emotion into action…that gives voice and direction to the question “What can I do?”

Deeper That the Skin is an interactive, engaging invitation to take a step into a new reality. It’s an affirmation of the notion that a more perfect union begins…. with us!

“The sayings of Jesus were of tremendous power because of His consciousness of God. They raised the God ideal far above what had ever before been conceived. These ideas so far transcended the thought plane of the people that even some of the disciples of Jesus would not accept them, and they ‘walked no more with him.’ Until fairly recent times most [people] have failed to grasp the lesson of the power of the spoken word expressing spiritual ideas . . . .

The secret of demonstration is to conceive what is true in Being and to carry out the concept in thought, word, and act. If I can conceive a truth, there must be a way by which I can make that truth apparent. If I can conceive of an inexhaustible supply existing in the omnipresent ethers, then there is a way by which I can make that supply manifest . . . .”

(Charles Fillmore Cofounder of the Unity Movement in Prosperity [1936] -- Lesson Two: Spiritual Mind, the Omnipresent Directive Principle of Prosperity).
Your Weekly Prosperity Affirmation:

“I CONCEIVE OF THE TRUTH OF SPIRIT’S INEXHAUSTIBLE SUPPLY. IF I CAN CONCEIVE IT, THEN I CAN RECEIVE IT.”
