| | | | | | Happy February to all!
The second month of the year of solutions! How am I doing? Well, I completed my first month of physical therapy with very positive results and I will be continuing for at least another month. I also had a laser eye procedure on one eye with the second one scheduled for this Thursday. These are procedures to correct narrow angle glaucoma in each eye. The point of me sharing this with you is to keep me in integrity about what I committed to do for my health in 2021. It is not always easy for us to take steps to take care of ourselves, but it is important to be reminded that my body is created by God and me, and how I take care of it matters!
We were all reminded of the importance of self-care if we read last Saturday’s Daily Word message. It was titled Self-Care. The affirmation stated, “I give myself love and care.” The first sentence says “the care and attention I give myself helps me claim my worth and give myself love.” Healthy self-care is not always easy for us, especially, if we are folks who see ourselves as caring for others. So, the last paragraph reminds us that we can make small changes knowing that each act of self-care “demonstrates my belief in my worth as a spiritual being.”
I am reminded by this discussion that what I say to myself is at the heart of any action I might take for self-care or healing. Since this is a Universe of thought, what I think about anything is what really matters. This brings me to this week’s book, Celebrate Yourself by Eric Butterworth. In this book, he has a chapter entitled “What are You Saying to Yourself?”. He begins with the biblical story from Mark 5. This is the story of the woman who is made well by touching the hem of Jesus’ garment. Seeing Jesus passing by, she rose from her bed and rushed out to Him. She said, “If I touch even his garments, I shall be made well” (Mark 5:28). Her healing began with a thought. Then she took action and received her healing. She had to believe healing was possible then she acted by getting up from her bed and going out to meet her believed source of that healing. Jesus’ answer to her is also quite revealing. He tells her that her faith has made her well. So, it is important to ask ourselves whether we believe we deserve to be healed of a certain affliction and then what action steps we can take, based on our belief.
Butterworth says, on pages 142 and 143: “We must learn to discipline ourselves in the things we say to ourselves. We should say only what we want to become a reality in our lives and not what we are resisting or resenting.” He suggests we should develop a habit of giving ourselves quiet talks to encourage ourselves and identify the many “broken records of self-limitation” we may be playing for ourselves.
Bringing this back to our year of solutions, I challenge you, my dear readers, to select one line of negative self-messaging that you give yourself often and re-write it in positive terms! We have the power to change our thoughts and create better outcomes!
As always, I invite you to join me for our Wings Zoom meeting on Tuesdays at 12:00. We are studying the chapter in The Sermon on the Mount entitled “Treasures in Heaven.”

It was a very healing place filled with beauty and life! I thought
that fit well with our plan to practice healing and positive
