WINGS group met in the UCC Cafe on Tuesdays for many years. Now that
we're sheltering in place, the group really misses sharing their
inspiring weekly studies.
Since our WINGS group leader, UCC Certified
Truth Teacher, Cynthia Mackey, began to send out weekly emails to the
group, we asked if we might share her messages with our entire email list so that more people could enjoy
them.
You're very welcome to send questions or positive comments to

| | | Hi Everyone,
A couple of weeks ago, on August 8 to be exact, my dad would have been 100 years old if he had not passed away in 2014. Marking that day in my mind I realized another important milestone was coming this month, so I waited anxiously to write about it to all of you.
I can now announce that we have something to celebrate! Today, August 18, 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment to the US Constitution giving women the right to vote! It took women from the first meeting at Seneca Falls New York in July of 1848 until August of 1920 to accomplish what to us today may seem to be common sense. However, maybe not! Our vote is our power and many have died for the right to vote. Suffragettes died or were imprisoned for voting rights as well as Civil Rights activists in the South in the 1960’s who were also killed, beaten or imprisoned for daring to register to vote themselves or registering others. The wonderful news is that there are always brave folks who step forward to lead in the evolution of equality!
We in Unity embrace equality in all of its forms, especially when it comes to identifying and honoring the divine feminine and the divine masculine in each and everyone of us. So today, we turn for our inspiration on this topic to the Bible, of course, but more specifically, to a chapter in Eric Butterworth’s book Celebrate Yourself. This chapter is titled The Needful Emancipation. In Genisis 1:26 and 1:27, we read that God said, “Let us make man in our image . . . . male and female he created them.” Butterworth goes on to say that love is a feminine attribute and intelligence is a masculine attitribute and, as whole beings, we possess both of these attributes. A well-adjusted life demands a balance between the two. It is not good for us to act only from a place of the intellect or only from the place of love. Every one of us needs both, whether we are expressing physically as a male or female.
The basic idea of this chapter is that each of us will be happiest and able to contribute the most when we are aware of both of these qualities in ourselves and in others. Respecting and expressing the divine feminine and divine masculine in each of us is the “needful emancipation” to which Butterworth refers in the title of the chapter. In seeking equality, we must not forsake any part of ourselves and continue to honor both attributes–neither being better than the other, just different. Butterworth concludes this chapter by appealing to all of us to “emancipate” these qualities for the betterment of our relationships, the betterment of our communities, our country and our world.
I, of course, recommend that you read the entire chapter. It is filled with relevent ideas for our time and excellent affirmations for releasing your divine feminine and divine masculine. Eric Butterworth and all of the Unity/New Thought authors I read continue to impress me that even though they wrote over a wide period of our history from the late 1800’s through the mid to late 1900’s, they always give me ideas I can use for anything that is going on right now! After all, today the president pardoned Susan B. Anthony for illegal voting and we have a woman vice-presidential candiate on a major party ticket. Progess is not always as fast as we might like but we do keep moving forward. Never get discouraged!
I hope all of you are healthy today! I miss all of you! And, oh yes, today is also Voting Day, so if you have not already voted in Florida’s primary today–go Vote!
Peace, Love and Emancipation, Cynthia
Today’s photo comes from my 2018 trip to Paris – the photo shows the Statue of Liberty that the French have in the middle of the Seine River as the reminder of the gift to the United States of their enlightment ideas on which our Declaration of Independence and US Constitution are based – with of course the Eifel Tower in the background! We have much to be thankful for to the French and they us! (Our revolution was first!) The ideas of the French Revolution of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity are ideas that all enlightened people share! |
