WINGed Words
Our WINGS group met in the UCC Cafe on Tuesdays for many years. Now that we're sheltering in place, the group really misses sharing their inspiring weekly studies.

Since our WINGS group leader, UCC Certified Truth Teacher, Cynthia Mackey, began to send out weekly emails to the group, we asked if we might share her messages with our entire email list so that more people could enjoy them.

You're very welcome to send questions or positive comments to Cynthia at:

Hi Everyone,

Ok, well now you know the pandemic has really gotten to me……. yesterday was Tuesday but I did not realize that until late last evening! Oh, my I forgot what day it was so, that’s why you didn’t get a Wings Update from me yesterday. I hope you are all well this week and holding strong!

The amount of time that I have been restricted in socializing and being involved in my normal activities has also given me time for reflection – so once again I was inspired by one of this week's Daily Word lessons entitled “Wholeness.” I liked the idea that when I see something or hear something I may not be seeing or hearing the wholeness of it. The example given was when I see a tree fully covered in its thick foliage standing tall and serene, I think I see the whole of it but there is much more to its root system and inner workings that are not visible to me. The same is true if I look at myself or any other person. I only see part…. only the physical form. But each of us is so much more!

This brought me to Charles Filmore’s book, Christian Healing. In Lesson 7, he addresses the idea of wholeness through our spirituality. Charles Fillmore explains our spiritual wholeness through the allegory in the 29th Chapter of Genesis – the allegory of the sons of Jacob and Leah. Leah means “weariness” and I am sure we can all relate to weariness in our present situation. On page 76, the first son of Leah is “sight” -- weariness saw the light of Spirit. The second son was “hearing” -- she was able to receive the word. The third son was “union” -- she merged with the limitless. And the fourth son was “praise.” Filmore says, “Praise is the complement of sight, hearing and unity, the redemption of weariness” and the path to our never-ending source – God – the Christ within. So, our prayers should not be meek supplications but “jubilant thanksgiving.” The rest of the chapter continues to elaborate on the power of praise in our lives. “Turn the power of praise upon whatever you wish to increase…..the faithful law, faithfully observed will reward you” (from p. 80).

Some of you may have seen some of the coverage of George Floyd’s three memorial services. They were, of course, extremely sad occasions, but the folks leading the services were jubilant in their praise of God! I must admit it made me miss our Church services even more and our wonderful, often jubilant, and definitely praise-filled music. It brought a smile to my face and redoubled my commitment to support our Church and ministry so we can one day have a praise-filled return to our sanctuary.

I miss everyone and look forward to when we can be together again, but until then let your spirit and your prayers be filled with “jubilant thanksgiving” for what we do have and cherish and praise all that you wish to increase.

Peace and Love, Cynthia
