| | Thanksgiving – A Dinner of Praise
“Let us say grace together, Friends, for grace is God’s love in action. But let us not say too long a grace - just long enough so that neither the plates nor our hearts have time to grow cold. Whatever foods are put before us for the feast, let us be reminded that God is our Source, and that sometimes the entree is most delicious after having been browned in the oven when “the heat is on.” Let us be grateful for both good and trying times that prepare this delicious feast of life. The rest is gravy, after all.
A bit of stuffing is a tasty reminder that it takes all sorts of enriching experiences to fill a life, both sweet and bittersweet. We give thanks for our friends and family, for, truly, assorted nuts fill out the feast. Let us give thanks for traditional dishes that call forth memories of good times past. Let us be grateful, too, for something new -- experimental recipes, tasted for the first time -- to keep us receptive to trying new things. Such is life in the fields of the Lord.
Above all, let us gather joyously, satisfied by both giving and taking of large portions of forgiveness. Let us be fully nourished with a dinner of praise, served with forgiveness, and shared in peace. And, let’s have just one more thing to finish off the feast: let’s each enjoy an enlighten- mint for the good of all humankind. Thank You, LORD. And so it is. Amen.” |
