We celebrate the beautiful life of David (Dave) Burton, who made peaceful transition at his home in Clearwater on June 23, 2024. Dave was born on October 31, 1942. He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 19 and served at MacDill Air Force Base. He entered the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he met and married Donna Stone. During their 31 years together, they had two daughters, Dawn and Darlene. After graduation in accounting, Dave worked with Harper, Van Scoik CPA firm, obtaining partner status early in his career. In addition, Dave was a successful rental home investor, finding win-win solutions to real estate issues where all concerned would benefit. After Donna’s passing, Dave was blessed to find love again with Beth Lane (Pashke). The couple was married at St. John’s Episcopal Church, with The Reverend Leddy Hammock participating in the ceremony on May 6, 2000. The couple had 24 wonderful years together and he welcomed her children, Megan and Nathan into the family. Dave was a devout member of Unity Church of Clearwater and the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. He was an avid car collector and a past officer of the Studebaker club and the Avanti Club of Florida. He was a rabid Florida Gator and Tampa Bay Rays fan. Dave will be remembered by many as a generous person who never expected anything in return. Dave served twice on our Unity Board of Directors and guided us through the process of issuing Faith Bonds in order to purchase the land upon which our new Church Home will soon be constructed. His life lights our way!
The Celebration of life for David Burton Jr. will take place on August 10th at 11:00 at Church of the Ascension, 701 Orange Ave., Clearwater, FL 33756. Reception to follow in church hall. The Reverend Dr. James A. Sorvillo and The Reverend Dr. Leddy Hammock will share in the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to either Unity Church of Clearwater, PO Box 4681, Clearwater, FL 33758 or Church of the Ascension, 701 Orange Ave., Clearwater, FL 33756.
Dave read the Unity Daily Word message every day and carried The Prayer for Protection as well as inspiring quotes from the treasured book, Healing after Loss in his wallet, like this one: “Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but the same necessity of loving heals them.” He is very dearly loved by friends in both congregations.
