A Christmas Message from Frank Bowman
To My Dear Unity Family,

I dearly miss seeing all of you, and I especially miss being able to share my gifts of music with you each Sunday morning. In fact, the most difficult impact of the pandemic on me is that I haven’t been able to play music with anyone since early March. I practice on my own, but it’s not the same as sharing the joy of creating music with others. This longing has been amplified during the Christmas season, during which, playing music has become my connection to the joy of this season.

Leddy’s wonderful lesson this past Sunday included the telling of the remarkable event that happened on a WWI battle field, when a spontaneous truce between the warring armies occurred during Christmas Eve, 1914. This reminded me of the amazing song written by John McCutcheon called “Christmas in the Trenches.”

This has been my favorite song of the Christmas Season since I first heard it in 1984. I make sure I hear it at least once each year, and I can never listen to it without being filled with emotion and literally coming to tears. It happened again today. Not only is the true story told in this song a confirmation of the Devine power of Christmas, but I think the melody and lyrics created by Mr. McCutcheon could not be more perfect. I’d like to share this song as my gift to you all during this especially difficult Christmas Season.

Wishing You a Merry Christmas and a Prayer for a Better year ahead,
