Many of you have been asking what's happening at Twins of Faith next weekend: who's coming, what's the topic, is there something for moms, dads, youth and kids. Short answer: YES, there is. We all live in Dunya, and here's how we see it:

FEATURES
15+ speakers and performers! From Doctors, scholars, academics to singers and stand-up comedians! Keep scrolling down for details.

Theme - "Dunya" - Talks to inspire and find actionable steps to use our #Dunya for #Akhira: how we can improve as individuals and as a community. Our speakers will address some of the challenges we currently face right here in Australia. The wide range of topics include: Education, Substance Abuse, Homeschooling, Current Affairs, Time Management, Empowering ourselves and the youth, Taboo topics (Sex Education & Pornography) and a LOT more.

Teens of Faith - A special program by Melbourne Madinah - made for teens by teens. Come to help our youth develop love and connection with the religion of Allah, in a manner that is fun, inspiring & educational. Workshops, competitions, career fair, game tournaments and even an escape room..! 

Marriage Workshop - Prepare for the marriage, not for the wedding. Dr. Edris Khamissa, South Africa's most renowned marriage, parenting and human potential counsellor. Edris Khamissa will help you get smarter about your emotions and harmonise relationships with those around you, in shaa Allah.

FIFA Playstation Tournament - Partnership with Islamic Youth Organisation to bring to the conference a FIFA PlayStation tournament for kids aged 10 and above! (On-the-day entry fee: under 14; $5, 14+; $10)

Being ME - 6 hours of Muslimah Empowered Sisters only sessions

Bazaar - More than 40 businesses with stalls at the conference. Think shopping. ALL your Hijab, clothing, books, gifts, arts and more under one roof.

Little Explorers' World - People think this is a child minding service, but it's way more than that. For kids aged 5 to 9, this is a workshop with organised, fun activities including witty games and exciting science experiments. That will keep the kids entertained all day and asleep all night, in shaa Allah. 
(There will be additional charges for children to be admitted into LEW. Payment is only required on the day, and will depend on the duration that you want to leave your child at LEW)

Reptile Show - We're also sneaking in a reptile show for the kids (and adults?). Not necessarily related to "The Awakening" but everyone loves the reptiles so why not!
Mum's Retreat - A private area for mothers with babies to relax and enjoy the conference via live video & audio feeds.

Madinah Speakers Lounge
- A public lounge area for you to hang out with your favourite speakers! Get to know them more, have questions clarified and benefit during this weekend.

  • Twins of Faith tickets are valid for all 3 days, multiple entry.

It really is difficult to summarise everything in an email, but rest assured whether you have been to a Twins of Faith conference before, or you haven't, this year is definitely worth coming!

SPEAKERS @ TWINS OF FAITH 2017

Edris an international consultant in Human Education and Development and the Executive Director of the Al-Falaah College. He is a well-known international educationist and trainer who has conducted workshops and seminars in South Africa, Nigeria, Zambia, Australia, United Kingdom, North America, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
Sheikh Tawfique is a graduate of Medicine from the University of Bond, Australia, as well as a graduate of the college of Shariah at the Islamic University of Madinah. Being a prolific speaker, he has travelled internationally, sharing his knowledge worldwide. He is renowned for specialising in Islamic Jurisprudence - particularly Islamic finance, Muslim Family Law and Islamic Medical Ethics. Originally from Melbourne, Sheikh Tawfique has always had a special place for Melbourne in his heart.
Sheikh Alaa has studied his Bachelors in Sharīʿah from the American International University, and has earned a scholarship from the Shari'ah Academy in Egypt/Florida. He has received his ijāzah of Qurʾan recitation for Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim, studied comparative religion for five years through the IPCI in South Africa, and was on the board of directors of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth. Currently he is the Director of Religious Affairs for the Islamic Centre of Canada-ISNA. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director for the Canadian Islamic Congress.
Daood Butt was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and has always had a desire to learn and teach Islam. Following secondary studies, he obtained a degree in Automotive Technology and was nominated amongst Canada's Top Graduates of 2002. During this time, he studied with local Imams and was hired as an Imam and Qur'an instructor at a local mosque. He went on to study at the Islamic University of Madinah for seven years, during which he completed a Diploma in Arabic Language followed by a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology and Islamic Da'wah from the Faculty of Da'wah and Usool Ad-Deen in 2010.
Wael Ibrahim is a certified Master Life Coach, facilitator and trainer on self-development, public speaking and leadership. He is also a John Maxwell Certified Coach, Teacher and Speaker. Br. Wael is the founder of Serving Islam Team – Hong Kong and Connect Institute Global. In the past couple of years he has conducted numerous workshops, seminars, keynote speeches, and one-on-one coaching sessions. He is an expert in the field of Porn addiction and recovery. He had authored various books on the subject such as “CHANGE” series and “Beat it! the Ultimate Journey to Break Free from porn addiction”. Br. Wael is also a holder of BA in Islamic studies and comparative religion, and right now he is the student counselor of the Australian Islamic College in Perth, WA. 
Hosam Helal is a community leader and the popular Imam at the Muslim Association of Hamilton. Born in southern Egypt, Helal moved to Canada in 2002 when his father accepted a position as an Imam. During his time at the University of Toronto and through his involvement with the MSA, he switched from pursuing his medical studies to becoming an educated, relatable and passionate Imam. In 2013 he was awarded the Imam of the Year award at the annual Muslim Fest in Mississauga.
Zachariah Matthews is a Sydney-based Muslim educator and community advocate born in Johannesburg. Matthews has appeared at a number of Islamic forums and conferences, published several papers and given media interviews on Islamic topics. He works actively with Australian youth, and is involved with/on the board of several community-based and national organisations and has contributed to various civic initiatives. Notably, he has helped to co-ordinate national statements in regard to the Australian government’s Muslim Community Reference Group, the pro-hijab campaign and others.
Abdullah Hakeem was born in a small island, Fiji. At the age of 4 he and his family migrated to Sydney, Australia and have been living there ever since. Through secondary school his eagerness to learn more about Islam increased, and he started attending hifz classes and regular Islamic lessons. He volunteered to conduct jumaah khutbahs at his local public high school, that otherwise had no jumaah prayer for the Muslim students.

Upon graduating high school he got married. His thirst for Islamic knowledge and guidance from Allah led him and his family to study at the International Islamic University of Malaysia for six years, during which he completed a Bachelor in Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) and minored in History and civilisations in 2013.

Throughout the past six years he has been returning to Australia during his breaks and has been actively conducting various Islamic lessons and khutbahs throughout Sydney. Fresh from completing his studies in Malaysia, he has been busying himself in work as well as participating and conducting Islamic programs, camps and talks with different Islamic organisations in Sydney.

He is a very active and passionate student of knowledge, whose aim is to focus on the youth and strengthen their bond with Islam. When he is not occupied with his work, he loves spending time with his family and friends through sports and other activities.
Zohra Sarwari is an author of 15 books, international speaker, entrepreneur, publisher, and homeschooler. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a Master's Degree in Business Administration, and is currently taking classes for a Bridge Program to obtain a Master's Degree in Islamic Studies. She has been seen on FOX News, ABC News, CBS news and other TV channels. She has had many radio interviews, and magazine interviews. Her passion is teaching Muslims to become the best they can be, while teaching Non-Muslims about the true Islam.
Sara holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Immunology and has completed a PhD in Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne, where she was involved in creating human engineered chromosomes for gene therapy. She then completed her medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2013.

Sara has been a regular speaker at Twins of Faith conferences.She conducts monthly women's classes with the Australian Albanian Islamic Society and has held various talks for women around Melbourne. Her main passion is the enlightenment of Muslim women through education, with a special focus on women's rights in Islam.
Umm Jamal is an Islamic Sciences teacher (Aqueedah, Fiqh & Quran) with ASWJ Australia for nearly 15 years. She reverted to Islam over 25 years ago, studied Quran & Tajweed in Saudi Arabia (Dar ul-Huda -Jeddah), has an ijaazah in Tajweed from Ustadhah Kareema Czerepinski (student of Sh Ayman Suwayd), recently completed memorising the Quran, holds a Bachelor of Arts Languages degree with a major in Arabic, has studied Fiqh & Aqeedah from scholars based in Saudi Arabia ( الأكادمية الإسلامية المفتوحة).
Lucy Verwey is a registered psychologist, who embraced Islam 20 years ago. She has been giving halaqa and working at Al-Taqwa College for over 10 years as the Counselling and Welfare Coordinator and also works in private practice. She has experience working with a range of mental health conditions, with a particular interest in complex trauma. She is currently in the final stages of completing a PhD on Muslims and mental health in Australia. She is also studying Arabic at an advanced level.
Dr Mariam Hussain migrated to Australia from India in 1973. She is a mother of one son and three daughters, all born and brought up here.

Mariam practiced as a Medical Officer in Psychiatry for 30 years in most of the major psychiatric hospitals and community mental health services in Melbourne. She has educated the staff of various hospitals about the beliefs, practices and needs of Muslim patients during 1980s and 1990s. She also works as a GP with a special interest in psychiatry.

Dr Hussain also has a long history of teaching Islam. She taught and ran a Saturday Madressa with other parents for 35 years, with 15 to 65 students annually. Durus (ladies’ circles sharing Islamic knowledge) are her passion: she runs about 5 sessions per month in different suburbs, the oldest has been running for 28 years.


ENTERTAINERS @ TWINS OF FAITH 2017

[Stand-up Comedian]
Omar Regan was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He started writing songs at the age of 9, and debuted on the professional music scene along with his brother as a member of the group S.O.A at the age of 11. In 2001 Regan was offered and accepted the role as Photo Double for Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 2. Regan is now international known, winning over audiences as far as England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, Australia, China, Malaysia, Zimbabwe Saudi Arabia, Dubai and more.

Regan has now founded his own production called HALALYWOOD and uses entertainment and humor to promote tolerance, diversity, and to build bridges across racial, religious, and social divides. As an African-American Muslim entertainer, Regan offers a unique perspective on everyday life, his mission statement is an acronym of his last name, Reflect Excellence, Gratitude And Nur (Light) REGAN.

[Singer - Nasheed Artist]
Ilyas Mao is a Somali-born Canadian Nasheed artist, songwriter, and producer. The talented artist is able to combine the structure, composition and rhythmic balance of a harmonic scale, giving him the ability to create multiple songs out of the whim. Growing up close to Toronto, Ilyas’s raw talent has impressed many family members as a child, by imitating prominent Somali classical singers. More recently, Ilyas has a growing collection of vocals-only English Nasheed aimed at Western audiences.

Kids aged 5-18 to submit essays on deen-related topics by March 24. Awards ceremony held at the event. Date to be confirmed.
Little Explorer's World
Leave your kids for the entire day and they will be looked after with dedicated kids workshops and entertainment. Entry to LEW is not included in your TOF tickets. Limited spots, first come first served.
FIFA Tournament
Structured Playstation tournament running on both Saturday and Sunday. One on one game winners bring home EB games vouchers. For 10 and above.
Mom's Room
For our beautiful mothers with kids under 5 with a dedicated area with live video and audio.
Prayer spaces + Jumuah
You can pray Jumaah right at the event. Khutba delivered by one of our guest speakers.
Parking
There are plenty of car parks for you leave you car. Price is set at a fix day rate, not included in your TOF ticket.
