As promised, Friend, I wanted to share my answer to the question I asked you in my previous email.
The question was: Do you prefer focusing on long-form or short-form writing projects?
I prefer short-form projects, especially email marketing.
Now don’t get me wrong. Long-form projects like sales letters and eBooks are great.
But email marketing is my sweet spot. And it might be yours, too, if you agree with any of the following statements:
1. You want a life outside your writing.
One of the things I dig most about emails is how quickly you can write them.
Unlike, say, a sales letter -- where a single project could consume weeks of your time and attention -- you can rattle off an email in an hour or two.
That leaves you with lots of time for hobbies, family, and life outside of writing.
2. You want to be a hero to your clients.
Yes, emails are short-form writing. But their impact is outsized. That’s because no other marketing channel delivers higher return on investment (ROI) than email.
In fact, according to the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing generates a 38x ROI.
So when you get good at email marketing, you can really bring home the bacon for your clients. (Spoiler: clients LOVE that.)
And obviously, a 38x ROI is awesome for your own business/offers, too.
3. You want to write about lots of different things.
I’ll tell you this: as an email marketer, you’ll never be bored.
Just this week alone I’ve written emails about Slinky toys, the diabolical ironclad beetle (amazing, Google it), a brief history of mushrooms, and more.
The way I write, literally anything (see above) can serve as a jumping off point for an email. It’s fun.
So there ya have it:
Time freedom. Big ROI (both for clients and for yourself.) And fun. Three reasons I’ve built my writing business around email marketing.
Can you achieve those things with long-form writing projects? Yes, absolutely!
But like I said, email marketing is the sweet spot for me.
Stay hungry,
-Paul
