Subject: When will life go back to normal?

What a weird time we’re living through.

It’s surreal.

When I look out my office window, I see cars driving up and down the street, a woman walking her dog, and a crew of city workers mangling the sidewalk.

Life looks normal.

But, of course, life is far from normal right now.

You don’t need me to itemize all the ways we’ve deviated from the norm. No doubt parts of your life have been turned upside down by coronavirus. And no one knows what awaits in the days and weeks ahead.

It’s natural to be freaked out a little (or a lot!) with everything that’s happening.

Your life today is different than it was this time last week.

Change is disruptive. It’s scary.

But, change also creates opportunities. Once everything finally does go back to normal (and it will), your life at that point in the future will be determined, in significant ways, by the choices you make now.

Consider:

Millions of people worldwide are being asked to work from home and stay at home, barring essential trips.

No going out to eat. No going out to see a movie. No trips to the gym, the golf course, the mall, the sauna, and so on.

Suddenly, practically overnight, millions of people are going to have a TON of free time on their hands.

And most people will try to fill that free time with a binge buffet of Netflix, video games, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram and TikTok or their Internet rabbit hole of choice.

But…

If you’re one of the few who embrace this free time as a resource, and not “time to kill”...

And if you use some of your free time to sharpen your existing skills and learn new ones, you’ll be capitalizing on an opportunity that may never again happen in our lifetime.

I don’t say this to be callous or opportunistic.

I’m aware of the negative impact coronavirus is having on millions of lives.

Like you, I wish this pandemic had never happened.

But it did happen. That’s reality.

And how you and I choose to deal with this reality is going to go a long way towards shaping our future.

I want to look back on this trying time and see the silver lining of how I helped my clients and grew my business.

I don’t want to remember this as an opportunity I squandered to clear out my Netflix queue.

What about you?
