When I was eight years old, I nearly soiled my britches waiting in line for Space Mountain at Disney World.
“Wait” is the wrong verb.
I was held captive as I quaked with terror in my size 7 Roos velcro-snap sneakers.
Shocked, saddened and wild-eyed at the thought of my father, typically so kind and loving, dragging me to what was sure to be a gruesome and much-too-young death.
To make matters worse, my sister, 18 months my junior, wasn’t the least bit fazed that we were being marched to our doom.
With my safety belt (ha -- lies!) latched, images of my short life flitted across the movie screen of my imagination.
My sole comfort the hope that I would soon be reunited with Harry, my beloved teddy bear hamster who’d joined The Pet Store Invisible the year before.
Miraculously, I survived my encounter with Space Mountain.
And, in fact, I discovered that roller coasters are actually pretty fun!
Which is why I’ve always puzzled at “roller coaster” as a metaphor for freelance income.
Yes, as a freelance writer your income can dramatically rise and fall -- especially when you’re first starting out. So the ups and downs are like a roller coaster.
But is it fun?
Uh… NOPE.
If you’ve ever experienced the stomach-churning, hair-raising ups and downs of building a stable freelance income, you’ll want to check out this shiny new episode of Just Add Hustle.
In this episode I chat with Yuwanda Black, author of The Ultimate Freelancer’s Guidebook, and site editor at Inkwell Editorial, about why she’s a “hybrid freelancer”.
I’ll let Yuwanda explain exactly what a “hybrid freelancer” is but, SPOILER ALERT, it’s all about building a writing biz that supports you with multiple steady streams of income.
If that sounds like a good time to you, join Yuwanda and me here for the full story:

P.S. -- Yuwanda has made a good living as a writer for 20+ years.
Near the end of our conversation I asked, “If you had to rebuild your business from scratch today, what’s the one thing you would do?”
Yuwanda’s answer surprised and delighted me.
If you’ve been wringing your brains trying to figure out how to start or grow your writing business… or, if you’re struggling to get clients… then you won’t want to miss Yuwanda’s answer.
