I have 5 updates for you this week.
1. The Big Idea
John Wooden, arguably the greatest basketball coach of all time, had an unusual way of starting practice.
He’d have his players -- including stars like Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar -- put on their socks and shoes again and again. Sometimes for up to an hour.
Reason? Because Coach Wooden knew championships were won by mastering the fundamentals. Like the proper way to lace up shoes.
Never stop practicing the fundamentals of your craft or business. It may not be exciting. But it leads to success.
2. Food For Thought
“The shape and content of life depend on how attention has been used. Entirely different realities will emerge depending on how it is invested.”
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow
3. On The Podcast
The #1 challenge most freelance writers face? Easy. It’s getting clients.
>>> Listen here for Ed Gandia’s “PPC Formula” freelance writing clients.
You can use this “PPC Formula” today, right now, to start filling your pipeline with high-quality clients.
4. Why do people act so crazy sometimes?
As writers, we need to understand why people think and act the way they do. Doing so will help us craft more persuasive copy, or create more compelling characters.
One of the best ways to increase your understanding of other people (and yourself, too), is by studying cognitive biases.
A cognitive bias is a sort of “mental blindspot” that can cloud our judgment and color our perception. Cognitive biases are how we rationalize our behavior to ourselves.
And this is the best list and explanation of cognitive biases I’ve seen online. Check it out:

5. Announcing: The 1-Email Workday
For most of the year, I’ve been working on an email marketing course. This course lays bare EVERYTHING I’ve learned over the past 5+ years as an email marketer.
Basically, I’m handing over the same strategies, swipe files, templates, tools, etc. I’ve used to generate well over $7 million in sales via email for my clients.
The course is called The 1-Email Workday.
And it’s for freelance writers, solopreneurs, small business owners, etc. and anyone who’d like to increase their impact and income by sending a daily email.
If you’re interested, let me know. And I’ll make sure you’re the first to hear when the course launches in January.
Stay hungry and keep hustling,
-Paul
