Dear Friend,

TNI invites proposals for its 2025 edition of the State of Power report on the theme "Geopolitics of Capitalism." In an era of shifting global power, we seek to explore how geopolitical and geoeconomic dynamics are evolving. Key questions include the extent of US hegemony, the impact of rising powers like China, and the role of transnational corporations. We welcome interdisciplinary reflections to provide a comprehensive analysis, aiming to empower international activists and movements.

Pitches (1-2 pages) are due by June 5, 2024. Grants of 250-500 euros are available for activists with low incomes and those in the Global South.

This second episode emphasizes three recent CND developments: (1) UN Human Rights High Commissioner's backing for the coca review, (2) Bolivia's plea to safeguard the leaf as a genetic resource, and (3) updates on WHO's review preparations.

New Tactics from a divided MAS

In 2023, Bolivia's governing party MAS split into 'renovators' and 'radicals', backing President Luis Arce or ex-President Evo Morales for the 2025 elections. Morales' eligibility was questioned after serving three terms. This divide impacts coca growers as it influences political alliances, potentially affecting policies regarding coca leaf cultivation and drug regulations in Bolivia.

Out-Organise the Enemy! Eqbal Ahmad and the liberation of Palestine

An essay for TNI's 50th anniversary

In 1969, at the Association of Arab-American University Graduates (AAUG) convention, Eqbal Ahmad delivered a stark message: the Palestinian liberation movement would fail if it relied solely on armed struggle. He argued for a broader strategy, combining military with political and ideological tactics. The aim was to bring about the moral isolation of Israel by exposing the violence and racism that Zionism, as a form of settler colonialism, had to rely upon. Today, that goal might finally be within reach.
