Thank you, dear prayer partners!
Braden and I had a good trip to Croatia last week to work with the Roma translators on the Bayash translation of the 50 Bible stories and on the Gospel of Mark.
We also got to visit the Roma village. We visited Nedeljko, a dear friend of Bob Hitching who founded this translation work. I showed him an app on my tablet with the story of creation from Genesis 1. Our son Matthew put together the app, and our intern, Braden, designed the icon.
Nedeljko began to read it then paused. "I have goose bumps and I want to cry. This is my language. This speaks to my heart. My brains works differently when I see it in my Roma language."
Wow. That's what makes all the travel and all the tedium of detailed translation checking worth it!
This was the capstone of our trip to Croatia to work on this translation. Thank you for praying for safety in travel, fruitfulness in Bible translation and funding for that process.
It was also a joy to record Natasha, pictured with me above, reading this same story in Bayash. Matthew is working on the app that will play the audio of the Bible story and highlight the text as it goes, which is great for those learning to read.
Tomorrow our whole family heads to Croatia. Pam and the kids will be spending time with missionary friends and with missionary kids whom Matthew won't see after this since we head off on home assignment, and some of these kids head to school in another country.
Braden and I will work with Biljana and Djeno on the Chergash translation of these same Bible stories and Mark and Matthew. Please pray for safety for our travels and for us to be a blessing to everyone we encounter.
