Love Is All Around Us
As we walk the aisles of our local drug store or supermarket, window shop downtown or go on with our daily online activities, we are flooded with reminders that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Pink and red hearts everywhere, advertisements for how to show that special someone that we care, and the word “Love” thrown around like confetti.
One could say, Love is all around us.
Yet at the same time, we are amidst one of the most divided political climates in recent history, with so much anger and negativity – even hatred – contaminating our daily lives. Whether it’s on television, the internet, our workplace, or for some even at home, it seems as though kindness and respect are taking a major backseat as we debate, disagree and advocate for what we believe in.
So here I ask, Where is the love?
It can feel overwhelming to look around at all the chaos and try to figure out where to start, perhaps even losing faith that we can individually make a difference. But I believe that we can. In fact, I believe that we are essential in making a difference. What if we start small, in our everyday lives? What if we start just by loving a little bit more as we go about our day?
What if every day we ask ourselves, Where can I open my heart today? How can I bring more love into this world? Maybe you smile when you normally wouldn’t. Let someone go ahead of you in line. Apologize for a thoughtless comment. Let go of a grudge. Say thank you. Say I love you.
So the answer to that question is actually quite simple. Where is the love? It is inside of you. And it’s up to each and every one of us to share it with the world. So join me this month, and let’s prove that love really is all around us.
