Loving Your Creature

We, who have self proclaimed that we are on a path of self-improvement, often deny the demands and needs of our creature, the creature referring to the body. We have been told in order to reach God we must transcend desire, eat a certain way, become celibate, and go to a certain building every Sunday morning. I certainly wish it were as easy as this. The creature/body is basically an animal. Each of our creatures is different, with different needs. If you deny your creature, your creature will block your higher energy flows and you will feel disconnected from your spirit. Very likely you will be lost in the worlds of alienation and neediness. Having been lost in those worlds myself for quite a period of time, and at the time, not quite knowing why, I made the decision to learn more about my creature and learn what it really needed (note: I didn't say wanted. Most creatures would want an endless supply of food and sex).

So how do you find out what your creature really needs? You can't really believe an authority. His personal experience is with his creature, not yours. Plus he/she may be of a different sex. How could they possibly understand your creature? I came to the conclusion that I would have to enter my own trial and error process. I would experiment in different areas to figure out what was too much, what was too little; so I could finally determine what was just right. For example, you might have a chocolate cake in front of you and your creature might be urging you to eat the whole thing that would lead to sickening feelings and stomach aches so, by trial and error, you've learned exactly the right portion for yourself. So do you really want sex three times a day? Try it. See where it goes. For some creatures, three times might be just right and for others it might be depleting.

How much meat should you eat? How much vegetable? Is your creature hetro, homo, or bi? Should you live near the beach or in the mountains or does it matter? Are you happier as a loner or with a mate? How much solitude do you need every week? Do you need to earn a lot of money or do you prefer to live simply and have more freedom? You knowing yourself can only answer these questions. But most people never answer them. They follow someone else's guidelines. And they don't assign the correct cause to their own unhappiness.

If you deny your creature, your creature will block your spiritual flows. William Blake, the English poet and artist, said "the path of excess leads to the palace of wisdom". Learn about yourself. Figure out what really makes you tick. See your life as one giant experiment. Develop compassion and understanding for your creature. And you only need to keep two cautions in mind. Don't risk more than you can afford to lose, and don't hurt others.
