Sounds like my protagonist got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning. Ezra here, again.
Happy New Year! When writing the third book in my series--Deborah's Number, A Bank Heist Mitzvah--I wanted to reflect on the apparent inequality among gender roles in Judaism and other religions.
Writing the book took me on a journey where I constantly asked myself, "What do women want?" The answer I came up with was so ridiculously simple, I practically gave myself a V-8 slap on the forehead of realization. The proper response is, "Which woman?"
It still makes no sense to me why so many people, men and women, feel like they have to impose their ideas of how women should live their lives.
Hmm. This newsletter is veering dangerously close to becoming political.
Anyhow, the other goal of the book was to dispel the myth that religious households have fewer instances of domestic abuse than non-religious households. Unfortunately, even though the faiths preach ever-loving kindness, the followers of the faiths don't always practice those aspects of the religion.
Yeah, I know. Heavy topics. Still, I feel like Deborah's Number did a great job at conveying a fun, riveting thriller while using a subtle needle to weave those threads of women's status in religion throughout.
Let's get to the gifts.
My Gifts
I decided to do something a little different with these giveaways. Instead of giving away "Mourner's Kaddish", the short prequel to The Torah Codes, I'm doing a New Year's giveaway of the full book The Torah Codes. If for some reason you don't have a copy yet, here's your chance to get one for yourself and share the link with your friends! :)
The three giveaways sites are:
The giveaways end at the end of October, so check them out, download them, and enjoy them!
Shana tova umetuka! Have a happy and sweet new year!
