This Really Touched Me
Last week I was driving from Los Angeles back to Sedona and was going through a small town in Arizona and stopped into a thrift store and bought a couple of CD's to play because there was no radio reception for hundreds of miles.
One of the CD's was a medley of songs by an old country artist named Tex Ritter. I remembered his name but I didn't remember his music,
I hit the road and played the CD. The first song was hauntingly beautiful. called Don't Forsake Me Oh MY Darling. I played it 3 times and was totally taken by it.
The next day, I was back in sedona and I did a search on the song and I found it was the title song from the movie High Noon from 1952. Of course I remembered that movie from when I was a kid and probably saw it but have no memory of anything about it. Here's a link to the song with shots from the movie.
As I was searching, I also learned that Tex Ritter was John Ritter's father and Gary Cooper won a best actor Academy Award and the movie won 3 Academy Awards.
So then I did another Youtube search on just the movie title and I found a clip where they showed just the final shootout and as I watched the shootout, I burst into tears, At first it seemed like a normal cowboy movie gun battle but then it shifted and I broke down.
Why did it touch me? It was the story of a sheriff who just got married and then got notice that four really bad ass gunslingers who he sent to prison were being released and were coming to get him, arriving at noon.
The town's people were begging him to leave. His wife was begging him to leave. They didn't want a gun battle in their town. They were not going to help him. He would have to stand alone against the gunslingers.
Finally there was the scene of his wife getting on a train to get out of town, forsaking her husband and Gary Cooper standing there seemingly facing certain death.
Let me know if it touched you the same way it touched me.
HintL The good prevailed in a surprise ending I could have never anticipated.
Blessings........................... Wynn
