Hello, Writers!
Sorry for missing a newsletter week. I spoke at the Las Vegas Writer's Conference and then seemed to lose a few days afterward as I enjoyed the high a great conference offers.
I finished reading two books recently: The first, Searching for Caleb by Anne Tyler was lovely. She has an ability to create characters in simple, easy strokes. A few words offer deep understanding of so many of her characters. I really enjoyed this novel.
The Second: White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo. I avoided this book on race written by a white person. But, I'm glad it was then assigned reading for a course. Perspective is important. The messages within are important. The conversation about race is important. Having a few tools to help with that conversation, also important. I'm glad I've read this book. I've learned a bit more about race and our white supremacist society in the US. And, my own perspective has been altered a bit.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we're planning another Julia Cameron workshop. On the next round, we'll be exploring Cameron's latest, The Listening Path, as a workshop for seven weeks, beginning Tuesday, May 4th. Register Today!
The Writer Workshop has only one online event scheduled this week:
Thursday, April 22, at 1 pm Eastern (10 am Pacific): Fiction through Prompts. In this online, video conference webinar, you'll learn about a literary device and we'll write to a high-end prompt for 25 minutes and then, the group shares the results and offers feedback. The cost is $10. Register for the Prompt Writing webinar.
Feedback and Critique and the Henderson Libraries Fiction through Prompts will both return the week of April 26th.
The Elements of Fiction webinars (Character, World Building, Plot, Pacing, and more) are available for on-demand viewing. Click to learn more....
For the online events, you don't need any special software. Just register and then click the link at the meeting time to join us.
Enjoy the journey!
