Hello Writers!
I hope this finds you well.
While I spend a lot of time at home writing in my usual daily course, this stay-at-home order is starting to wear on me. Why? Because I also take time to walk on the beach at least once a week. I generally take a weekly artist date to a park or museum or interesting location.
While I've been visiting museums through virtual tours, it's not the same. And, with the argument in Georgia over whether the beaches should be open, I'm staying out of it and staying home.
I find that the uncertainty of our times is also creating a dynamic where I'm not feeling like my usual creative self. While I'm showing up at the page every day, I find I'm not creating as many words per day. For a bit I was giving myself a hard time about that. After all, hitting our word counts is how we produce--well, it's how I produce. But, the past few days, I've been trying to be easy on myself, with myself. I've been reading more, binging on TV, and watching movies--some, old favorites, others on my watch list.
Clearly, we don't know how long this will last, so we'll need to be patient and kind with ourselves and others.
If you're looking for some community...The Writer Workshop will be holding two online gatherings again this week and I hope you'll join us.
Tonight, Monday, April 13th, at 7 pm Eastern (4 pm Pacific). Feedback and Critique. If you're interested in reading a 5-6 pages of your work and receiving feedback from other writers, join us. The cost is $5.
Thursday, April 16, at 1 pm Eastern (10 am Pacific). Fiction through Prompts. In this online, video conference webinar, you'll learn about a literary device and then write to a high end prompt for 20-25 minutes. Then, we share the results and offer feedback. The cost is $10. Register for the Prompt Writing webinar.
For the online events, you don't need any special software. Just register and then click the link at the meeting time to join us.
In the meantime, Stay Safe!
Enjoy the journey!
